I went to a couple of L/M dealers yesterday hoping to drive an 04', found none. As I was leaving the lot a salesman waved for me to stop and we struck a conversation, to make a long short, he asked if I have done any mods yet and I said "programming" he asked if it was worth it and I asked him if he would like a ride. He said yes and we pulled out of lot and I introduce him to a head jerk and a rock solid 1-2 shift. A lot of traffic so I went to interstate road. Complete stop at the on ramp, dropped into 1st to do manual shift. On very coarse asphalt I stabbed pedal car lost traction for about 2-3 seconds, 1-2 shift just pass 4500 rpm's lost traction again for about 1 second, we are on the intestate by now and I do manual 2-3 shift and I lost traction for just a split second I felt it but said nothing because I figured the guy with me did not noticed it...I looked at him and he has this huge grin on his face and he says to me " Man , you got rubber in 3rd " I was surprised; thought I imagined it, but he confirmed it. I know for sure my car will lay down rubber from dead stop and also the 1-2....but 3rd gear was a total surprise.
PS: I know, I know this is no big deal for the guys that are heavy into mods.... but this is stock + programming. I was thrilled !!!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Amazing, in fact. I'm very impressed. Do you get the same type of thing without the manual shifting? Just put it in drive or overdrive and stomp the pedal from a standing start?

Actually the take off from a dead start is the same; it lays down rubber according to pavement, loud screech on new black asphalt, low tone on coarse old pavement. The big difference is the 1-2, in drive it shifts at a much higher RPM and all I get is a minor chirp and I don't really feel a lost of traction, the manual shift I read somewhere here should be done at 4500 rpm's and thats what I tried ( I miss it a bit, about 4800rpm's ) and I actually broke tires loose (did not hear any squeal), the 2-3 shift in drive had never produced a lost of traction. When I did it manually, it was at about 4800 rpm's and I heard nothing but I felt tires slip for a fraction of a second, My passenger felt it also and commented on it.

Ya know, I thought I chirped in 3rd the other day, I had music playing at the time, so I wasn't sure. But, my MM has never done that before (if it did) I wasn't manual shifting. I never do that. I'd drop my tranny with my luck.

I don't know.... what if he does I should get the commision. :D
Manual shifting of an automatic is something i definitely have to practice in order to get some better performance over auto shifting. I know there must be some do's and dont's, and anyone wanting to lend some advice on this would be most appreciated.

Ross, there are guys here that have taken their cars to the track and had them timed several times using different shifting techniques hopefully they will offer some advice, what I did was mostly for fun and would not produce the best times 'cause I lost traction....but that's what made it fun !!!!
Yep, sometimes that sweet sound of tires spinning is worth a little loss of time! I remember when I was much, much younger we would say that a STOP sign meant Spin Tires On Pavement. Now THAT goes back a few years!
