Alright, so I'm on Roosevelt blvd headed southbound at that 2nd light right before it turns into a highway (for everyone familiar with Philly). I see this 2002ish maxima next to me with LEDs in his sidemarkers, and he starts revving his engine at me. I just laugh, thinking "Please... I have a V8 with waay more horsepower than your little pocket rocket.. I'll smoke you." Boy was I wrong... We pull off, and he pulls about a half a car length ahead of me in 1st gear, and just keeps pulling and pulling... he shut it down at about 110 mph, at which point he had about a good 2 lengths on me :(. I had my girl with me in the car, and he had his... I hate when that happens! lol. He was a stick shift with a stock exhaust, and all I heard was in intake. I'm stock for now. I didn't think those little bastards were that fast. What gives??

Did you load the T/C before the launch?
That's what stockers really need to remember...

i'm assuming t/c means traction control? i don't know what you mean by loading it though.. i haven't really searched around this forum too much.. i just hit the gas and went

TC means Torque Converter, and as for loading it means to preload the TC before launching. In other words stand on the breaks and then step on the go pedal until the RPMs are up around 2-3K, then release the brakes and floor the gas. Now try this at a track, it's safer, especially until you know what you're doing.

I had a 2002 Maxima 3.5 SE 6spd stick, Frankencar intake, underdrive crank pulley, dyno'd at 228/232'ish to the front wheel. Those were stock 255hp and cant remember the torque. The stick made all the difference in that car and it was beastly... well beastly compared to that 88hp 96 Mitsubishi Mirage I was driving. Funny thing is I sold it and got the Crown Vic because I kept driving too fast with it.

He wouldn't have beat you by as much, but you have to remember these cars aren't all that fast when stock. For what you're probably looking for you'd need a CAI (Cold Air Intake) and a tune and he wouldn't beat you. Underdrive pullies and 4.10 gears and he wouldn't have come close.

unless he had a tuned full exhaust, intake spacers, some IM work, and maybe a UDP.. those things apparently get pretty damn fast for 4 door sedans.. there was a n/a maxima that ran 12.9 in MD

I took a maxima bout the same year not too long ago, it had ricer exhaust work, went from about 40, it was a ridiculous kill. My buddies were laughing they're asses off, because he was about 12 car lengths behind!
From a dig probably woulda been different story.

I tried preloading the t/c once at the track. I only did it to about 1500 rpms. The lights turned and I mashed the gas to the floor the rest of the way and let off the brake. The end result? My worst 1/4 mile time ever. 18.4 seconds or something. The car fishtailed and I had to come to a near stop to gain control.

You do have to do a mean burnout to get the tires as sticky as possible first, and it helps to aim the car straight too. :D That's how I got into the 13's , NA.

That's what I mean Mest30...
If you load it...it screems out of the hole...Now you just control (don't mash it) the tire spin and presto! you start making some good times...
Ed's got the idea...lol

Get some sticky tires and it'll solve that problem. ;)

Unlocking the TC won't matter. The computer won't command TC lock at all if you are heavy on the gas, it only comes into play at lighter throttle. There are a lot of V6s that will smoke an NA MM nowadays. The stock MM is pretty slow considering how many HP it has "on paper". 302 horsepower sounds like a lot but with a more modern and efficient (and light weight) car you can run a 15 sec 1/4 mile with 200 hp.
My wife drives a 2002 Maxima (auto), stock they are able to run 14.7 in the 1/4.
