View Full Version : Silver Tint, anyone?
Has anyone used a silver window tint on their Black Beauty? Or has anyone seen this combination? How about with our green solar tint? Or is this what some are referring to, as metallic? Does anyone have a good picture showing the silver on black? Installer suggested this, (50%) Said he's done it before, looks sharp, I'm just having a hard time picturing this. He said that it would accent the rims. Any Opinions?

Only time I've seen it is on Tuner's, and frankly I think it looks, well, ricey... The dark tint really pulls the car together, and adds to the sinisterness of it.

I have seen the silver and green solor tint on other black cars but not on MM. They do look good in some aspects but I can not bring myself to do it to my MM. 35% Black tint on mine.
Mine's not a silver tint...but it's not the black or "smoked" either.
It's from FormulaOne and it kinda has a greenish look to it. Kinda like a classic pair of Ray Bans. I like it.

I think it would look good on the MM

If you're talking about the silver reflective stuff like I see on big buildings with lots of glass, I wonder if it would be legal on a car...it might reflect too much, especially at night, making it more difficult for other drivers? Even if it's legal, what kind of hassle would you get from law enforcement personnel?
Thanks for the pic TAF. It would be more green than silver, never realized how green the windows were.
RF- The silver is 50%, turn the interior lights on at night, it's see through. Ohio has a 50% limit; with original solar tint, I should be about 43-45%.
Definitely don't want the ricer look, I build Fords, not rice.

Ken:
I wasn't commenting on the percentage of light transmitted from the outside to the inside, which is what the 50% number (in Ohio) means, rather I was commenting on the reflectivity of the silver coating possibly reflecting too much light back at other drivers, from their headlights, or from street lighting, etc...

Around here the metallic reflective tint is illegal to use on a vehicle.

"sinisterness" What a great way to describe these cars. I wish I could get "SINISTER" on my next personalized plate.
I agree about the dark charcoal or black tint. Mine is not limosine tint, but it is as close as I could get. I don't want people to be able to see who is driving........plus it keeps it cooler in the sun.

Hey Ken,
I grew up in Cleveland, not far from ya. I was in your neck o' the woods in July. I have 30%, the cops were looking at me, but no tickets.
I used to have 5% on my Trans Am in Cleveland: 3 speeding tickets, 1 failure to yeild, and 1 reckless op. (caught doing donuts) But they never said anything about my tint.
Then again,.. that was over 10 years ago.

RF - you're dead on. Any reflective coating on ANY vehicle windows is ABSOLUTELY asking for a summons. I don't know about other states, but here in Jersey there's a specific statute for "reflective coatings" - which includes the mirrored tint. It's not for the safety of other drivers at night, but for the safety of Law Enforcement personel. We really don't hammer people on their "smoke" tint... a good flashlight will pierce right through that stuff.

I test drove a used Silver '03 Marauder last week here at dealership in Chicago that had a wierd silver tint on the back windows. It was not entirely, but black at the bottom that faded to silver at the top. Here is a picture of the car, it is hard to make out in this shot but you can kind of see it in the rear quarter window:

It is very obvious in person, but I would not recommend it. It looked rather tacky. And even on a sunny day, you can hardly see out the back window.

I have the "Chrome Tint" on my Blue MM....looks just like the MM in my signature.....I like it.....Don't think I would have done it on black though....

The biggest reason I would avoid the mettalic tints is because it would increase my radar profile and reduce the effectiveness of my radar detector. Even the heated windshield on some of the Fords can do that. Although, if you want to make a bigger impression on the police it may allow the rest of us to slip by unnoticed.
TAF- She does look sweet.
Petrograde- mmmmm Donuts...:D Isn't that how we learn to drive in the snow. I think that everyone should be required to do a few donuts so as to learn how to handle a car in a slide or skid. Still pull a few donuts any chance that I get.
Marauder57- It wasn't a Chrome tint, wasn't nearly that shiny, could see it if sun hit it just right. I stopped and talked to the installer yesterday, to check out his work. He said that he used this executive series tint on Lexus' and BMW's. I decided to stick with the 'sinister' black. Was afraid that the solar green would show up more with the light silver.
