View Full Version : I'll never find a good Marauder, Ebay nightmares

Ok, So I'm going to vent. I've been looking for nearly 1 year (seriously looking) for a Marauder that is nice enough to call my own. I'll admit I'm picky, and since I bought a Marauder new in 2003, it will be hard to replace that particular car. I have looked at noting but heaps of crap for way too much money. If I actually find a nice one, there is some stupid story that goes with the car... , "I'm selling it for my uncle, friend, or the guy who owns the 7-11's daughter" Or some story where they have a signed title in somebody else's name. Here are my vents:
1. If the car is a pipe, be honest. Don't make me drive 15 hours to look at your car to find it has rust, dings, and the wheels all have been curbed. I made it a point ask for photos, don't hide the damage. Yep. I drove 15 hours one way to look at a car for 15 minutes then hop in the car and drive home. What a D.F!
2. If you are selling a car, title it in your own name. (unless you are a licensed dealer) In my state it is illegal to "jump" titles so watch out. One cannot get a cashier's check cut to a different person than that who's listed on the title as car owner. If it's not in your name, the buyer doesn't know if he or she is buying a stolen car or some other fishy type of transaction. A "one owner" car is just that. Not a car that was bought by somebody else new and now you (the second owner) are trying to flip for a gy-normus profit.
3. Don't ask 21,000 for a 50k mile Marauder. If it's nice, be reasonable. Also don't ask 12,000 dollars for a 2003 300a with 120k on it. This is a 7500-8500 dollar car. Don't swear at me when I make an offer. It's not personal, but just business. If you are a licensed dealer, or some flipper who paid too much, that's not my fault. If I have cash, I'm serious. Take me as such.
All in all, I want a nice Marauder. Low miles, high miles.... I don't care just as long as it is clean and properly represented. I know I'll pay up for the right one. (2004 SB or DTR Stock- One owner) Until then, as I have for the last year, I'll keep looking. Wish me luck. Sorry for the rant. Thank you for reading.....

might be a long shot but what about trying to see if the current owner of your first MM would be willing to sell?

It was actually for sale back in 2006 at Ewald Ford in Hartford WI. I saw it on Ebay by vin. I still have all my original paperwork from when I bought it new. In 06, I would have been the 5th owner. (and the 1st) I drove the 50 miles to look at it and the poor car had really been beat. I could tell it had been wrecked and it also had some real cheesy mods done too it. It had 27k on it and was leaking oil, tires were bald and was scratched. It still had the minor stone bruise in the windshield I got coming back from Duluth, MN. That really made me sad. I ran a carfax on it. It was sold at 6k by me. 9k by the guy I sold it to. It was resold again at 15k then at 27k. If anybody on here bought it, I hope it's been good to you. It's funny, I told the salesman at Ewald, it was my old car and showed them my bill of sale. Magically 2 days later it was sold. I wonder if it had been repossessed somewhere along the way?

There were only 11,000 Marauders made.
If you think you are going to get one for $7500 - $8500
then you need to be prepared to accept the shopping cart dings
and curbed wheels.
My 2004 was purchased NEW on January 2, 2004.
It has over 91,000 miles on it.
It has been cared for by me and my dealership since it was new.
If you want to come anywhere close to it, you need to have at least $18,000
in your hand to persuade me to even think of parting with her.
I waited over 5 years to purchase this car, and many Marauder owners waited as well.
The enthusiasts are just that, enthusiasts... and they won't give their baby to just anyone.
So think twice before you buy.
You will get what you pay for... :bows:

I stopped and looked at a stock 94-96 (?) impala ss last week for the fun of it, didn't see the mileage but there was obviously alot and it was selling for $9995. Now tell me again what you feel these MM are worth. You will see a very healthy increase in price in the coming years so if i were you i'd be looking to purchase before this economy picks up. Remember 11,052 MM compared to what 1/2 a million SS's translates to higher demand.

...and that right there probably explains this guy's problem. Anyone can go to a used-car dealer that has a Marauder and probably overpay for a mediocre-decent condition one. The 'Rauders in the best condition belong to the enthusiasts, who much of the time will sell only for their true value. Based on past experiences, eBay is oftentimes the wrong place to look for a vehicle owned by someone passionate enough to care for it properly.
The auction ended on ebay today for mine, no takers. I think Im asking a fair price: 13,900 for a 2004 with 98k. Im going to put it on AutoTrader next.

I have one for you if you'd like. Lots of extra goodies. Currently has 30,600 on the odometer. I bought it this past June from a fellow member as he needed money for a down payment on a 2009 Z06 Vette. Due to my financial situation I think I might have to part ways with my baby already. I was looking to get $16,999. If that sounds like something that might work for you let me know. Best of look in your search!:banana2:

$16,900 for a SB 'o4 with flint interior. 65,000 on the odometer. Looks very nice with new tires. A California car at Mayberry Lincoln Mercury in No. Hollywood, Ca.
Mayberry is the only non company owned dealership left. The Mayberry family has owned since the 40's. They sell a lot of Panteras and Marauders. Very nice folks.
Other than buying Lincolns there I have no association with the place.

You know what, after driving a N/A Marauder, I long for more power, this car is too nice to S/C.... and void the warranty. If I could (and I can) find one that is F.S. that has been S/C'd, I think that would be the right direction for me.
FWIW, I am trying to make the warranty still stay in effect with a S/C, if I can make that happen, I will keep the DTR.:D

Well.... then I'd have another black car, ones enough. I think the cat selling "THAT" car, needs the beer, several.
I don't want to give up that warranty just yet........ I used it the other day, alternators are expensive...... and I nit-picked some other little things that were irritating me. Yes, I waited for the car, didn't leave it's side:rolleyes:, the mechanic hated me, kinda like being at home with the wife:argue:.

You are probably correct. I'm fussy, and don't want a pile of garbage, stories, a ton of mods, or one that's had several owners. I'll pay up for the correct one. However it seems that the ones on ebay are mostly pipes. You all have some nice ones on here for sale. I'll know when it's right.

Would have never seen that alternator going bad. At Ford dealer pricing ... I'd imagine the alternator alone was over 5 bills, not including labor.
Speaking of lil' irritating things on that car .....
One thing I always meant to look into on that car was the front bumper.
(more specifically the RF area)
Drying it off or waxing near there always produced an annoying squeak.
Maybe something is/was loose in that area.

I think I finally found my potential next MM. 2003 300A Black, one owner, all original paperwork, window sticker, keys, everything. Even has the floormats (super nice) and the ash tray (never used.) No accidents. I looked the car up, down, on a hoist, everywhere. Flawless except for a 2" long scratch on the driver's fender. Only 13,000 miles. All service records. The price is up there, but still less that Cordoba1's Marauder. This car is still 100% original down to the tires and battery. The only problem is that this is an early build 03. (7-23-02) Are these the ones that have engine troubles? Good news is a Ford dealer has it and will sell me a Premium Care ESP if I want it.

10-17-2008, 08:23 PM
Aren't the 300A's the ones with the bad rear axle bearings that tore up the shafts? Was there a recall on those or just a TSB?
I took the Premium Care ESP with mine,I'm good till 66,540 miles or Jan.18,2011.

We'll see how your paint looks in four years. Carmax claimed they painted my front bumper as like most cars. Problem being a couple years later most of the lower front bumper's clear is flaking off and also the entire drivers side has small flake offs around the door handles and moldings. Also the pass. side fender is more of a brownish tinge than the other panels. After closely examining (like i should have done long ago) i can see tape off marks for HALF the car!
We are currently in talks considering i still have a year and a half to pay, plus i hinted that i was bored from not working lately and i might just have to come down and park my "example of a good Carmax car" with plenty of BEWARE signs at their entrance.
They told me over the phone the first time I called that if it wasn't in a MAJOR collision with frame damage that they consider it to be "up to their standards". Even though it wasn't quite a year old when purchased.

i looked for tape/paint lines but i did not see any. i say keep an iron fist and fight for what right and your rights. we consumers have a lot more rights when it comes to buying cars than what you are led to belive. just because we signed our lives away doesnt mean we are screwed.

Actually if it ever goes to court, the judge rarely sides with the dealer.
