At the Southwest Swap Meet this last weekend, I came across a booth with someone selling that clear plastic paint/hood/headlight protection film some of us have been interested in.

To make a long story short, they DO have kits for the MM. The basic kit for the forward part of the hood and fenders, and the upper part of the header panel is $139. They also have kits for the entire bumper cover, the headlights AND driving lights, the side mirrors, and door edges.

Anybody interested, go to xpel.com

I think I'm gonna order the hood kit and the headlight kit. They had the stuff on an Explorer at the swap meet. The film on the hood was pretty thin, but the headlight film felt like it was nearly 1/16" thick! They said the had tested it with up to 1" stones, and they just bounced off.

PM Mark N4OGL, I was there when the guy put it on his car. Looks great. I think marauderboy also had it done.
Looks good on black, awesome on silver!

Uncompensated endorsement: I've got this on my Silver MM and I LOVE it. I got it when I couldn't get a bra in time for a cross-country trip (to/from California), and it was great - bugs came right off. Also, it's darn near invisible on the car.

I know you can install it yourself, but, frankly, after watching the guy that did mine, I wouldn't want to try it. I don't think I could do it "bubble-free."

I guess it would depend on what the charge is for the installation. Too much and I'll just do it myself. I talked to the guy at the swap meet, and from the way he talked, it's pretty much the same as installing large decals/stickers. Spray a slightly soapy solution on the car, move the film around until it's in the right place, squeegee the water out starting in the middle and work towards the edges, and let it set up. Your done.:D

If stones bounce off of this stuff, I'd like to put it on my windshield!

It's clear enuf for headlights, but that doesn't mean it's clear enuf for the windshield. But, they sell it by the sq.ft., so you could buy just a little to try it out. For me, I think I'll get a sq.ft. to experiment with.
