I can't believe I forgot to mention how long I have had this car as of a few days ago. I think I got it on Oct 17th 2002 or possibly the 13th... I need to look it up. When I got the car it had 12 miles on it and what a day it was. My dad got it for me because he wanted his one and only child to be in a safe car. When I have kids I will want the same for them even if it's my expence.
When I first got this car my intention was to sup it up. I knew kits were going to come out for these cars and that they would remain rare. This car has gone though so much in my life. My discovery of being a devoted music fan, high school (yes I drove it to high school most of Junor and Senior year) it's been in 2 accidents, (one telephone pole -thanks dad! and hitting some black ice and hitting a guardrail backwards at 65 mph... made it all the way back to Chicago from Michigan!) it's kept me so safe, I still get comments on it, but the first 18 months was like none other, I've gone to so many tracks have probably have easily 300 runs....
The car has been super dependable dispite me being a total speed demon with a driving record to prove it. The car landed me in court twice due to "fun" with zero convictions. The car has been airborne quite a few times and has never broken down on me. (the jumps were all usually less than 3 feet) People still slow down and think I'm a cop on highways, the P.A. system never get's dull, the car shows have been great. The performance is sooooo much fun... until the speed bug bites and you want more and more all the time.
The bad side is girls have used me to get a ride in the car with absolutly nothing in return!!! Must be because I have no idea what is on the top 40 radio station. I had to replace the engine at 99,426 miles when it was really wiring that was melting... thanks a lot Ford! The paint is a real pain to keep looking good all the time. That's about it for the downside.
After all these years I haven't been tempted by anything at all for a replacement especially after the supercharger. Nothing at all would I get rid of the Marauder for. Sure I see one or two cars that I want, but I would never trade this car for anything. I'm still driving the crap out of this car and love that roar those headers give when it goes past 3,000 rpm out of a stop sign.
Above all I have met some really great people in the club and some not so great, but we all share the love of the car and that's what makes us come together. I am looking foward to the next 132,000 miles and six years.
Drive it like you rented it!
