Morning all,
I noticed yesterday morning when I took my son to school that my MM has developed a left right shimmy in the steering wheel when I run over about 63 MPH and on up.
Haven't had this problem before so before I take it in for service tommorrow I wanted to find out if anyone could tell me if they've had the same problem or if anyone has an idea as to what could be the problem.

Still having a steady surging, lack of power, hesitation thing that I've had for the last 850 miles and for which my selling dealers service departments answer was to put some more miles on it. Well I have been and the more miles the worse it gets. Idle is getting rougher and mileage is the sh**ts.

I'm trying a new dealer tommorrow, taking along my list of TSB's and SSM's that apply to whats wrong with my cars as well as many of yours and see if these guys can or I should say " are willing "to fix it.

Any suggestions on this front end deal would be appreciated.
By the way my mileage is 1405.

Thanks and everyone have a great weekend.
Mike

I have noticed a violent shimmy on grooved pavement only at speeds of high 60's and above. Really unnerving and so pronounced that I find it hard to believe it's just the wider tires hooking up real well - never experienced that kind of thing with any other auto.

Let me know what you find out.

Sounds like wheel balance. Possibly lost a weight. IMHO.

Matt,
I've had these same wide tires on my car since I bought it 6 months ago and 1100 miles ago. Haven't had that problem until yesterday and I've hit 100 mph a couple of times with no problem whatsoever.
I'll let ya know what I find out. I'm hopefull that JGC is right and that it is a wheel weight.
Thanks for your replies.

Mike,
I've got a similar problem with mine. My steering wheel vibrates at all speeds. But I also have pulsing brake pedal, so I'm thinking the front rotors are warped and a skim cut is needed to true them up. With the number of miles on mine, they're about due anyway. I had this problem frequently on my 40th Anniversary T-Bird. You might also check the the wheels on the inside. Mine had alot of tar coated rocks stuck on them.

Shimmy and pulsating brakes should not be a problem on such new cars. IMHO something is wrong with your cars. I've topped 35K, even had front end out of alignment around 25K, and didn't experience shimmy. Shimmy usually indicates lost wheel weight, or bad ball joints or tie rods. I'd venture the wheel; weights on vehicle this new.

Do a search on steering problems and my name to see my problem. I have had the wheels balanced twice with little or no improvement. The road surface does seem to make some difference on how much the steering wheel trembles. If I let go of the wheel and look at the holes in the steering wheel cover, I can see it shaking rotationally back and forth. I plan to try the dealer again soon to see if they can fix it. Let us know if they fix yours.
