Isn't the Marauder a Limited-Production Specialty Vehicle, Mercury reintroduced the Marauder name as a potent icon of racetrack performance refined for the street. Mercury quotes; "It is a rare automobile that's both powerful and comfortable, the rarest of the rare". Why does the Ford Mustang Cobra Owner receive a Special Vehicle Team(SVT)certificate of authenticity along with other pertinent data information on the vehicle they purchase, unique only to that vehicle? Us Marauder Owners get a Black Leather Jacket made exclusively for Mercury Marauder Owners. I love the idea of the black leather jacket but it should also include some type of certificate of ownership that documents sequence number built or something. Am I the only one that feels this way, did I miss something along the way. Any info would be appreciated.

As far as Ford is concerned with this one, I think they feel it's just a Grand Marque upgrade package. Nothing really special.

SVT states one of the benefits they offer is exclusivity. The certificate and all the other data is to show it. I think there are twice as many Marauders produced per year than Cobras or Lightnings - about 8k to 10k each per year. I received a leather Cobra jacket for free too. But, it has a leather patch on the inside with my VIN # and some other stuff on it.

Joe,

Didn't the 99 owners get the jacket as a PR attempt over the low HP issue? With my 01 Cobra all I got was the Certificate from SVT.. and my first year free in SVTOA...

Gonzo,

SVT's get a build number that is not the VIN but rather the production number for that model...Mine was #584 of 3384 convertibles produced in 01. Until the certificate showed up you would not know that as it is not calculated until the run ends.

In the case of the MM MAD-3R has it nailed, it is a option on the GM, not a specific body style identified by the VIN.. only the engine code, digit 8 is MM specific...

I read that originally the MM was going to be a SVT Crown Vic. Then Mercury was given it as the MM to try and bring in younger blood.. in a way they that was a mistake IMHO, as most LM dealers are totally clueless about performance cars..and the people who buy them...

I think the Marauder is limited, in a sence. But SHH about the SVT certificate. All it is is a piece of paper that tells the insurance company that you're driving a potentially dangerous vehicle. I kind of like the fact they still think it's a GM. I look at it as having a Cobra in desguise.

I think its 99 owners only. I don't think I got the membership though. I haven't heard anyone with an 01 getting a jacket. I also don't know whether it is a PR attempt over the low HP issue. It may have been planned before everything happened and its timing seemed to be more than a coincidence. The order form said it was commemerating the latest Cobra - the first with an IRS. I bought a Bronco in 96 and they sent me a pair of folding director's chairs with carrying case. There were no problems with Broncos.

Speaking of insurance, the insurance back a few years ago for an Escort ZX2 was almost as much as my Cobra. It was so high because the ZX2 had a "sport engine." LOL. Its a least 4 cylinders short of a "sport" engine.

I totally agree with you about the LM dealers not being familar with performance cars, however... my dealer seems to be definatly coming around.

My service writer was initially negative about the type of mods I was discussing with him, but yesterday when I took my MM for its 5000 mile service it was a completely different attitude. He had actually checked into some of the things we had previously discussed and was ready for me when I got there. First think he did was go out of his way to show me the Motorcraft synthetic blend he was going to use for the oil change.

We left the hood of the car open when he took me to Parts to show me the Motorcraft oil. When we came back there were four techs standing in front of it checking out the engine. The service writer introduced me to all of them and told me what each of them did. One guy was the tranny guy, another the engine tech and another was trim.

The tranny guy right away started talking to me about a shift kit, gears and the like, and the engine guy was suggesting a chip.

They all told me to call them anytime if I wanted to talk about mods or had any problems. And the service writer asked for a stack of my notepads ( I own a Mortgage company ) to make sure everyone there knew how to reach me.

I had a list of several minor items to be taken care of , and they handled them all with a smile. Magic Lincoln Mercury of Valencia, CA sure made me feel my car was in enthusiastic hands!

Mercury hasn't sold anything even relatively considered a performance machine since the early 90's with the Supercharged Cougars and 5.0 cougars... Before that, you'd have to go back to 67-73! :)

Lincoln Mercury and Ford Motor Company do consider Marauder unique, and from a sales perspective it is as unique as a Town Car, regardless of the ordering technique (Preferred Equipment Package 300A from the Grand Marquis). The dealer body says Marauder is not referred to as a "Grand Marquis Marauder," but simply as Marauder. It is also considered to be a separate line and will be counted as such. However, it is not an SVT product line, and therefore won't rate an SVT certificate.

03 Marauder on order!

Thanks...and for that we get no accessories or performance upgrades unless we hook-up with good folks like Dennis and are "on our own" to get this car the way it should have come. I'm glad the guys in the Atlanta SVTOA have been so welcoming to us, as well as having a GREAT, performance minded Blue Oval Dealer/Sponsor. Otherwise, we'd be waiting for service time with the 75 year olds that hear a squeak and don't know if its their car or their hearing aid...
