So here I am emptying my trunk prior to going to Englishtown for a night of racing. It's about 2:45 pm and my father is working on our 20 ton Interstate trailer. I hear him start screaming and then he comes running out of the garage and exclaims, "I need to borrow you for the afternoon. And we'll need your car. And you should probably bring your badge with you." Baffled, I ask him what we'll be doing. "Get me a blank check, we're going to Maryland for parts... and we need to be there in an hour." Turns out that the rear axle of the trailer heated up for some reason and the bearing melted on it. It was a freakin mess.
I don't know how familiar you all are with the geography of NJ, but getting from Freehold (dead center of the state) to Maryland is no hop, skip, and jump.
So we hop in the MM and at 2:55 pm I start cruising toward the interstate. This is the first time my father has ever been in it... he had no idea of what the car could do. He tells me I'm driving too slow and we're not going to make it. Well, lemme tell you, I hit the highway and laid into it. He almost ***** himself. For the majority of the ride we were cruising between 90 & 110. At one point we broke 120. We ended up making it to the shop at 4:01 pm. It was FUN!!!!
On our way back (I took my time and was safe) I stopped for gas on Rt 130 near Mount Holly. As I was filling up, a MM turned onto 130 in front of the station. The driver looked at my ride, honked twice, and gave a HUGE thumbs up! He had PA tags... I smiled and waved. The first thing that popped into mind was, "I wonder if he's a member??"
