For those of you who've replaced the stock head unit...

No one I've come across makes an adapter for the factory harness. Soooo What did you guys do? Anyone have the wiring diagram or give me the skinny on what wires I need?

I really don't feel like butchering my factory harness, so unless someone has the color combo for all the appropriate wires, I may end up just getting the head unit pro-installed.

Logan have you looked here: http://www.crutchfield.com they claim to provide an adapter to match our harness plug

Thanks smokie, Pulled the deck, looks like that connector will do the trick... I'll know on Tuesday when it shoes up... While I was at it, I ordered the Steering wheel control adapter too... :)

and just a quick heads up for everyone:
there are "pros" who just slice the factory harnesses too. be careful! (or just do it yourself.)

Yes they will. Especially if a proper connector isn't readily available.

adapters should be available now. I know from a while back, some manufacturers were working on them. The new connector isn't unique to the Marauder.

When I was still doing it for money, I used to completely ignore ALL stock factory wiring. None of the setups I put in ever used the factory harness for anything, as they were generally setups that involved high wattage with multiple amps, EQs A/V intergration etc....

If I was going to put in a REALLY big-a$$ setup in the beast I would be running ALL hi-po wire and be using big-bux connnectors/shielding and such.

Any 'PRO' who cuts the harness for lack of an adapting coonector is a SLOB and should be force to pay for a repair by the dealer to "make it whole" again. It is just plain lazy to chop the harness. And if you are truly concerned about getting an electricaly 'tight' connection, there is no substitute for running all new, hi-po wires as unbroken runs.

crutchfield has a alpine without an internal amp on sale for $299- from $499. i was thinking of this as i already upgraded my speakers. the 4 channel mtx amp is also on sale. my big question is, "will an 8" sub fit in the sub's hole in the rear deck without cutting. if yes i would get a 8" sub and a mono class d amp to go with the rest listed before.

Yikes, by the time this system is done, I'll be broke... I SOOOOO need a stereo shop sponsor on this site... Yeeesh...

Just ordered my amps (Pioneer 520w 4 channel & Pioneer 400w 2 channel, to be bridged for the sub)... Picked up a Kenwood 8" sub, and two Pyle TFT 6.5" screens for both headrests...

I'm just about at $2k into it. Full retail on this stuff is well over $3.5k, so I guess I'm not doing too bad...

Hmmmm, guess I should consider an alarm system too... Dammit. :)

kenwood amps are ok..me and friends went with thier exceleon stuff almost exclusivly. head units, amps, speakers, etc.. kenwood isn't bad but now that we are a little more informed they are not as great as they seem. there is stuff thats better for the same price.

want a one amp solution? try soundstream's da vinci or van gogh amp

edit: dammnit, logan! you edited your post now mine doesnt make any sense! :D

logan, for a mono sub application - go with a class "d" amp. it is much more efficient. bridging an amp drops the ohm load down by half and creates a lot of heat while pulling a lot more current. class "d" draw less current.

I agree completely

Yeah yeah yeah... You're right, but see hear, I'll be upgrading shortly to a 6 channel surround sound setup ya see, so I'll unbridge the sucker or just run one channel to the sub... I'm not big on uber thumping so not a huge amount of power required... But do need the other channel for the center channel...

Heard that...

How can I help here Logan? I'd love to pitch my pennies in.

What can I bring to you in Texas, my friend? 78th Frasers? 1st Bn Black Watch? SFU? Royal Scots DG?

Oh...I got it! New stuff from down under...Western Austrailia Police "Off duty?" Victoria Police "MasterBlasters?" "Live in the Rockies?"

You name it, I got to hear real music on this system, make it rock before it rolls...LOL.

For the record folks, the Wiring adapter that crutchfield lists and sells for the 03 Marauder is a perfect fit.

Crutchfield are the only ones I could find that actually sell the 03 Ford adapter...

It provides constant power, ground, switched power, dimmer and all stock speaker wires...

I also HIGHLY recommend the PAC SWI-X Steering Wheel Control Interface... EASY hookup and it'll enable your steering wheel controls to work with almost any aftermarket deck, and is fully programmable for any function. You can even re-assign the functions of your steering wheel controls.
