View Full Version : Minor repair gone way bad!
:help:
I went in to get a minor electrical issue fixed. When I dropped off the car, it looked like this:
http://www.mercurymarauder.net/showcase/files/4/2/7/5/marauder_detailed.jpg
When I showed up to check on it, the shop had it completely torn apart!
http://www.mercurymarauder.net/showcase/files/4/2/7/5/marauder_frame.jpg
Is all that really necessary for changing a bulb? I mean seriously, there are parts everywhere and they misplaced the body! This blows so hard! At this rate I'm really gonna get screwed when I get the whine fixed. :alone:

Was it one of those pesky hard to reach bulbs in the dash? If so then thats okay. That does look wicked tho.

:hmmm: When they said the dash bulbs were difficult, I wasn't expecting this... oh well, guess that explains it. Thanks!

Good gawd it looks new. I'd hate to see what mine woiuld look like with the body off

I think it's the new alternator. The aftermarket ones make horrible whining noises, but are worth a 100+ HP from what I hear. Oh well, I'll have to get the noise fixed next...

Just wondering, why did the body have to come off the frame?

Hmm, that looks so much like my last two Cobra motors...I want it.
Just wondering, why did the body have to come off the frame?
It wasn't necessary, just a heck of a lot easier. The frame had to be notched and boxed to clear the alternator bracket, a section of the fuel line had to be replaced, the headers had to get transferred, the transmission had to be pulled for the new torque converter, custom tubing and wiring was necessary, the intercooler and pump had to be mounted... among other things. This way there was room to work on all of that without having to lift the car up and down. It's saved time and head/neck aches.
and because he wanted to brag about how clean his car is (jerk) :P
Oh, and this too... :D
I must say this is neat, but taking the body off the frame?

you putting in the 3 inch body spacers when you put it back together?
get that sweet off-road clearance

You so want to do it for the V10 project! :D It's hella bad...
I'm still thinking about the go kart idea. All those "accessories" are weighing me down. I may not have the fastest Marauder, but sure as heck I could have the lightest! :burnout:

Looks sweet man!!!! I have been in ford several times and seen complete body's off suv's and such for major engine work and when i asked about it they said it makes for a much easier job and down the line to the customers pocket. Average disconnect on a expedition they told me was 45 min. and an hour and fifteen to put it back.

Interesting approach. How hard was it to remove the body? Cant say I'd do this, but I never considered it before.

Looks like a great way to get ready to paint a frame.......
wonder who might want to do that?
I'd like to know the steps also, as body removal is in my plans for my plans that I'm planning as I plan my plans.

I wasn't there when they did it, but it was on the order of a few hours, not days. I think all the wiring I had running every which way gave the most problems!

So what are the plans for air intake? Battery relocation or custom airbox and duct?
So what are the plans for air intake? Battery relocation or custom airbox and duct?
We're relocating the battery to the driver's side. For now, I'll be using the JLT ram air kit for the 03/04 Cobra with the JLT Marauder heat shield, as the Cobra one has no where to mount. The plan is to make a custom air box in the near future.

The "L" has a longer wheelbase.
That is the whole point. Take the Longer wheelbase chassis off the P70 and put a Marauder engine, drive line, suspension (maybe making it softer), and then cut the body behind the B pillar and weld the P70 body behind B Pillar into places. Put the Marauder parts on the new Marauder L and put the new body on the New P70 frame with all the Marauder parts in their place.
Alternatively if you want to just make a Marauder clone L then you could keep the P70 body and frame intact and just switch drive lines, engine, and suspension, then do an Interior swap and upgrades and have a Marauder P70.
Only difference would be cutting the body in half and welding it back together, thus making a Marauder L instead of P70 Clone.
I'm not sure if an Interior swap would be less time consumming than a cut and paste job.

Not sure about the interior. Doesn't the limo have longer rear doors, which would mean different door panels?

Have fun with the oil filter if you're using Cobra's stock adapter/cooler. :)
Also, if you're using Cobra's alternator, have fun making it talk to your PCM. :)

Yup, for now, I'm going to use the Motocraft short replacement filter. I'll go with a relocation kit soon. Any problems with going this route?

You may have to swap the MM regulator onto the Cobra alternator.

Is it safe to assume that this is a somewhat trivial task? This just involves swapping the gray for the white regulator, correct? Thanks!

The MM regulator module WON'T fit Cobra alternator. Already tried that!
This (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Voltage-Regulator-Ford-6G-Alternator-White-w-Black-Blue_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksid Zp1742Q2em153Q2el1262QQcategor yZ33577QQihZ014QQitemZ33028349 1211)is the regulator you need to swap out of the Cobra alternator and convert the wiring from the MM connector to the Cobra's also. It's very easy.

The Motocraft short replacement filter will LOOK like it will fit unitl you actually try to put it on which you'll find out that it won't clear the frame rail.
You will need this (http://www.stangsuspension.com/store/comersus_viewitem.asp?idproduc t=1137) relocation kit.

What coolant crossover tube are you plan on using? If it's Cobra, be prepare to do some custom radiator hoses. The one from MM won't fit.
If only there was a way to get the one from the Triology kit.

The EGR, MAP, IAT wiring will need to be modified.
It will probably be easier and look cleaner, if the EGR was deleted.
Then all you'll need to do is combine the wiring of MAP & IAT from MM's harness to the Cobra's TMAP sensor that is on the blower discharge plate.

Ok, the work is coming along nicely. Right now, we're trying to track down a stock heat exchanger and reservoir. Anyone by chance have (or have access to) take-offs in good condition? If not, can anyone provide the Ford or Ford Racing part numbers? I'm looking into aftermarket upgrades, but we need all the hardware (brackets, etc.). Thanks!

Go afteramrket. it's easy to fab brackets with 3/4"x1/8" aluminum flat stock and a vice. Contact Dennis Reinhart for his reservoir. it lives under the battery or in your case it seems like under the air filter if you swap sides.

Thanks! Unfortunately, the heat exchanger brackets aren't so easy to fabricate as they're more like a clamp than a bracket. :( We're looking into a couple options today, so hopefully we'll have a solution soon. Still exploring options on the reservoir...
I have the stock cobra heat exchanger brackets at home.
$25 + shipping.
..or better yet, call Jerry Barnes and ask him to sell you a set from the Trilogy kit.

Thanks for the offer! Wound up going with an aftermarket heat exchanger. Also, we found a reservoir, which will fit where we want. Thanks everyone!
The body's back on and it's down to the last few things. Notice the relocated battery next to the windshield washer reservoir. I'll provide more details and pictures soon.
