My Marauder has made this very obnoxious whining noise since i got it two years back. It was fine when i first got it cause it kinda just sounded like a blower, but the past couple months it got worse and sounds like crap. I tried changing my power steering pump, tensioner, both idler pullys, and belt, and now i finally diagnosed the problem to be my a/c compressor with a stethoscope. I was wondering if i have to change my whole compressor or if there is a way to just change the pulley on it. Has anyone else had this problem before? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Does it make the noise both while the compressor is off and when it is on? Or only when it is on? If it makes the noise only when it's on, you probably need a compressor. As they wear out they get noisey and the noise will vary w/ rpms. If you check operating pressures on the AC you will probably find reduced system performance to go along with the increased noise. If you have a manifold gage set or know someone who does, I'm sure someone on here can give you guidance on what range of pressures to expect for high and low side at a given ambient temp and rpm.

The noise get a lot quieter when i turn the a/c on. I was thinkin its like a bad pulley bearing or clutch bearing. Im not to sure what has the bearing the pulley or clutch and im not sure if it is possible to change just the bearing and how difficult it would be. if anyone has any experience changing the bearing on the a/c compressor please let me know what all needs to be done and if i need any special tools.

BUMPPPPP...yes I know, pretty old.

I am experiencing this exact same issue and I have the exact same question that was never answered.

I like to shop at RockAuto. With that being said, the tab that has all of the A/C parts contains a slew of items that are pulley/bearing/clutch/coil assembly related ranging anywhere from $18 - $72.

Is it just the clutch pulley or could it be the clutch coil or both?

What piece(s) do I need to shut this thing up? :help:

Cheapest solution first please.

I'd replace the entire assembly - Four Seasons P/N: 47885

I have a similar problem, my marauder suddenly sounds like I have a blower. I first thought it was the power steering, exchanged fluid and no difference, plus it really is not coming from that side, and the noise does not change with turning the wheel lock to lock.

I had swapped in an old 4G alternator, it's running in this picture, no change in the nose, and this has the old smooth idler installed. The Cell does not have stereo sound but you can see how it gets quieter on the PS pump side. I did not have time to get it on the ramps yesterday and check the noise from underneath (safely without getting my bits caught in the belt)

And for reference, an unclutched 2v style 2003-2005 ish 4G alternator fits a Marauder in a pinch. The pulley is mildly bigger makes the belt a bit tougher to get on. Does charge ok, though this one has tired brushes, puts out a good Volt less than the new one I bought last year.

No belt no noise

I have checked all the pulleys and did swap out the smooth one as it was a tiny bit wobbly, and I had a spare in the pile o parts, the AC pulley spins smooth no play noticed, waterpump spins smooth too no movement. it must be the AC clutch but that sure does not sound like any noise a bearing would ever make to me....
