Folks,
I thought I would share a report of gas mileage from the trip I took with my MM this past weekend. We drove from Northern VA down to Asheville, NC and back. I did not track the mileage all the way but did carefully check the last leg home. It was from Wytheville, VA to Herndon, VA totalling 282.3 miles. The gas was visible clearly at the top of the neck both at the beginning of the run and when I filled up at home. It took 10.665 gallons for a whopping 26.47 miles per gallon. I think that is the best tank I have carefully measured. The car had 4 people and 1/2 load in the trunk. The speed over the entire run (I-81 and I-66) averaged 68 mph and there was a slight headwind with a temperature in the upper 50s and high humidity. The terrain is mostly valley and rolling hills. I would have expected about 25 given past experience but was pleased with this number! The cost of BP 93 was $2.399 in Wytheville.

With or without cruise control? I am driving from VA to CT tonight, I will report back on how my otherwise stock except for PCM flash and 3.73 gears MM does. I bet I do 5 mpg worse than you but I can't drive this car w/ cruise on w/out stomping it.

With cruise set on 70 as much as possible. Even then you still have mucho trucks to deal with on I-81. I was not attempting a mileage record just a normal trip cruise.

Yeah cruise on will definitely get better mileage than me driving on the highway, I figured. Me driving an average of 75 means speeds vary from 55-80+ mph as I pass people. That's my "not trying to set a mileage record" driving. If I could keep my foot out of it I'd do better than 20 highway probably.

Thanks for the report, Jon. That is pretty good mileage and consistent with what I have seen, too. Unfortunately (or not) when I have a chance to "run", I do.
I chased N40GL from Manassas, VA to Louisville, KY and back in April 2008. My average over 1,200 miles (600 each way) was 24.5 MPG. Two people and a trunkful of luggage. Speeds of 75-80 MPH the whole way (only about 10% on cruise control) -- in rain too (on the westbound trip).

Nice mileage number.
I think I was able to get somewhere in that area on my long commute to work. I don't get that regularly (normally, I'm around 25mpg). I wonder what the mileage record is for these beasts. . .

Do you have a tune? When my car was flashed it got me 25 mpg on the highway and 14.6 on the 1320.

I was on the stock tune when I got the 26.4 mpg mileage.
I have not had any luck with an aftermarket tune increasing mileage. Zack tried to help me out, but my TC was doing some funny lock / unlock scenarios. I'm seriously considering buying the software and self tuning.

Ok here is my report. I ran a few tanks 100% highway through the MM last weekend. 21.7 mpg with cruise on as much as possible, no passengers, driving 75-80 mph. This is the best mpg I have ever gotten with this car. I still won't believe 25+ mpg unless I personally witness it. Maybe it does a lot better at 65 mph than 80, I will never know. I suppose the extra 10-15 mph could be the lost 3 mpg for me. Either that or you 25 mpg guys run a lot more tire pressure. I had 30 psi cold in the tires for that 21.7 mpg 100% highway cruise #.

All I can say is that I typically see 24 to 25 on most long runs and I was surprised to see 26.5 2 weeks ago. I was careful at measuring it. As I said, my speed averaged 68 on cruise with 4 people and some luggage. I set the tires cold at 36 before the trip.

I got 29.8 once, returning from Tennessee to Rhode Island last winter. I was trying to make progress, but not catch a strom. Anyway, filled in Southern VA(maybe even Wytheville  ), re-filled in Allentown PA. I potsed photos here of pump, tank, and mileage. Averaged about 62 mph, all but maybe .5 miles was on the highway. I think I'd have broke the 30mpg barrier if I didn't have to pee so much.

24.5 miles per us gallon (29.5 miles per imperial gallon....despite my home, don't ask me for metric meaurements...lol) My driving is typically combined city and highway. About 75% highway, 25% city driving, 60 mph on highway using 92 octane from a discount retailer here. My car is stock...no mods whatsoever. This number is very consistent. I still haven't made a lenghty highway trip to test true highway mpg with mine yet, but I'd suspect it will be over 30 (imperial mpg). I'm actually really impressed with the mpg our cars get if you drive them nicely

Just for the other end of the spectrum, I just got it down to just over 17.5 mpg (US). That was running the cr&p out of it (nothing over 125, though). I also let it warm up for several minutes when it is cold before I start driving it.
That's the lowest I've seen.

Everybody gets over the EPA rating if you ask.... I dunno! Surely there are other guys like me who are getting at best 21-22 highway with a near stock low mileage car.
