Folks,

Last week I lost my car keys (including MM, TBird, house, and office). What is it going to cost me in time and money to get a replacement PATS key and fob for the MM? I know it's going to be painful.

You're going to have to get the car towed to a dealer. Then they should be able to get the key codes using the service managers password from Ford Motor using your VIN number. Then using their scan tool erase all keys in P.A.T.S. memory and program both new keys. I would highly recommend getting a third and even a fourth key just to avoid situations like this. With one key you can drive into a dealer and they can program a second. I think some larger locksmiths have bought the computer necc to program keys.

The factory remote is no problem to program, no computer necc.

I have TWO working keys, the second original that came with the car and the valet key. So, no towing necessary. What I read on the web is that I should be able to program the new PATS key myself using my two working keys. Do you all know if this works..............http://www.fordf150.net/howto/patskey.php

If you have 2 working keys you can program another one yourself. Instructions are in the owner's manual.

Thank you! I guess I should have looked in the manual first. It says I can re-program the remote keyless entry fobs as well when I get a new one. I'll go get a new key and fob tomorrow and give it a try.

Get a correct blank so it doesn't look generic. They can usually be found on ebay. Most dealers will rape you. Get it cut anywhere that will do it. Some places won't cut them, even if you bring in your own. Ace Hardware will cut them around here, but Walmart, Lowe's & Home Depot won't.

You can turn PATS off in the tune, to avoid the huge fees at the dealer.

Will the Ford dealer cut them even though more expensive? I only have Lowe's, Home Depot, and Sears around here that cut keys. Even if the dealer cuts it, I can still save on the programming myself, right?

Yes you can, and hopefully the parts dept. will not be greedy, unfortunately alot of them are. The good thing is that if the key is cut wrong and does not open door, or turn in ignition they will make you a new one at N/C.

I'm back in business with the new PATS key. Got it at the Ford dealer and then programmed it myself today. He had to order the remote entry fob. Thanks for the help here. Jon
