When you store your car for the winter do you put sta-bil in the gas? I have done it with and without in the past and never had a problem. The car sits for about 5 months. I am asking because in the past the cars I stored had carbs versus the fuel injection system and wondering if that makes a difference. How long does gas keep without any addative like sta-bil?

I had problems with my older cars, with the fuel pumps and with the accelorator pumps going bad, there is something in the sta-bil that seems to dry out the diaphrams, so I don't trust it with the injected cars, plus, for that short of a time ,I wouldn't bother, I have cars that sit for over a year sometimes and I don't use it anymore.

Would recomend the use of STA-BIL anytime your car will sit more than
30 days. I have used it for years with good results. My 1972 Buick Skylark 350 was put to bed in Ohio with a quart in her tank. Next spring, a few taps
on the gas pedal and she's back to life like she had been running yesterday.
Same with my Marauder....STA-BIL in the tank all the time....sits 3-6 months
at a crack. "Wouldn't stay home without it!"

Gotta Love It!;)

I've used it in my lawn equipment and never have a problem with start up in the spring. Its in my DTR for her long winter nap.

Yep, same here, especially in tractors, mowers, motorcycles, ATV's & such.

if you have oxygenated fuel in your area, fuel starts to go bad in 30 days. I use it in all my small engines, and old cars for decades, never a problem. my lawn tractor, and old cars fire right up. I swear by the stuff.

Just be sure to add it, fill it and drive it for a few miles....
That way it's in the system all the way!
Good stuff in my book!

Sounds like most use it. We do not have the reformulated gas here in this part of Wi. I already put the car away for the winter (without adding anything to the gas) with a full tank. Now I am wondering if I should pull it out and add the sta-Bil? The car is stored in a car bubble with the battery removed so it is a little work to pull it out and add the stuff.

+1 on driving it a bit, want to get it up thru the fuel line rather than just sitting it the tank.

I've never had a problem with Sta-Bil, but I'll be quick to add I've never used it on a Fuel Injected vehicle, only carbureted.

I do know that the "ReLead" brand of lead substitute WILL gum up a carburetor, pretty badly. But that's not a MM issue, obviously.

I concur with others. I have used it in the past in any vehicle I store for the winter: Camaros, motorcycles, and the Marauder. Although this will only be the second winter of storage for the Marauder. I almost forgot to add it and the car was already parked, Battery Tender on it, detailed, and covered. I just uncovered the front and rear of the car, disconnected the Battery Tender, pourded in the STA-BIL, and let the car run for about 5 minutes or so like it says on the bottle. Also, make sure to fill up before storing to limit the amount of open space in the tank.

I also add one bottle of DRY GAS to the tank, in addition to the Sta Bil ..

:bigcry: Oh that's great. You guys are really making me feel bad that I did not put anything in with the 3.98 a gallon gas 7 weeks ago. I am going to wait until we get a warm day (I hope soon) and take the car out of the bubble put the battery back in and put the sta-bil in. Yes, I will run the car for about 5 minutes and then put it back in storage. Tough getting old and not thinking about all the details before putting the car away. At least I remembered to ask after the fact. Maybe I should just move to a warmer state.

I use it every fall.

Due to the fact that we've had 2 kids over a 19 month span - the Mustangs didn't get driven much over the last 2 years. Each car had gas that was 2 years old in them and so, earlier in the month, I siphoned it out of my '69 and put it in the Marauder and refilled with fresh gas and Sta-Bil. No problems what so ever. If it ever warms up again, I'll do the same with the other Mustang.

Be sure that your tank it completely topped off before you store the car - it's the air in the tank that makes the gas spoil. If you're not going to be storing the car for more than the winter, a full tank will keep the gas from spoiling - no Sta-Bil necessary - good insurance either way though.

Don't do that, you are better off not starting the car at all then starting it long enough to put a ton of water in the exhaust, but not long enough to cook all the water out. Start the car up and drive it around long enough to get it hot

Reading some of these posts tells me that with a full tank (which I have) I should be good till spring without adding anything. Saying that, if we get a warm day maybe I will pull it out and add some sta-bil and take it for a ride before putting it back to sleep.
