I know the code is "P0190 Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Circuit Malfunction", but why do i get this code on my newly Procharged Marauder? It happened twice now. Also, while the check engine light is on, does this affect how my car performs?

What happens to alot of supercharged Marauders and Cobras is the fuels is racing up to the sensor and putting too much pressure on it a little quicker than it suppose to and will cause the sensor to malfunction plain and simple. Think of it as a badge of honor you must be pushing some good power for it to happen. All the MM's i have seen it happen to are really fast cars. Here is what you need to cure the problem. Also replace the sensor. We already installed these on a few Trilogy MM's piece of cake thank me later :burnout:

The sensor doesn't actually "malfunction"...it is seeing pressure that is higher than the calibrated parameter of your sensor...Thus, putting it "out of range" of the sensors parameters...and it throws a code...
I had my tuner raise the ECM fuel pressure sensor parameters, so that the ECM sees the higher pressure as being "in range" of the sensors parameters....and the light goes out...Problem fixed...
and no, it does not affect the performance of the car...

What ^^^^ he said.
Anytime it goes on, just clear the code.
However, if it goes on during WOT, that is telling you there was a significant pressure DROP and that needs to be fixed!

Does the sensor read drop and raise of pressure? If so, is there any way to tell if the sensor read a drop or raise besides a fuel pressure gage?

SO this sounds like it works. Just wondering if this fix is a cover to fix something else? If it is possible to adjust the range of the sensor, wouldn't i just do that? I don't know either way, but i'm getting a few different answers and want to narrow it down. Thanks guys for all the info. Once again being a member of MM.net proves invaluable
so does the sensor need to be replaced? I just had this happen to me as well.
FYI that sensor is $120.00 at the dealership.

The local Ford Dealership here has it for $95!
Dont go replacing your sensor, its probably not bad.
The only reason the FRPS sensors need that disk is for manually shifted Cobras that have huge pressure spikes when drivers let off the gas to shift.
To tell if your sensor is bad, you can smell for gas in the vacuum port, or your car will have a noticeable bog off the line.

yes replacement should be done just to safe ..... lean and s/c'd bad combo. tryed resetting and still showed lean ..replace replace replace

It's throwing a code because you wasted 93 octane fuel on a POS Honda Civic!!!.....;)
no bog or smell of gas here.

I disagree.
Most of the time the sensor goes bad, it DOES NOT throw a code.
so just reset and go??? :burnout:

You guys are over thinking THIS!
Just raise the sensor parameters, via the software...and carry on...

not over thinking bro. Just being cautious.

Local and Zack are right. Raise the acceptable parameters in the tune. The only thing the code means is that the sensor read a parameter higher than expected. You have a bigger fuel pump and more available pressure plus higher spike when shifting. Raise the parameter in the tune.
This SHOULD be part of a good tune to start with. If this car is custom tuned, start questioning the tuner as other stuff may be over-looked as well.
DO NOT use the disk. It's a damper and will cause a more sluggish response to the PCM. Zack, again is right on with it being only for stick shift cars that show a HUGE rail spike when jumping out of WOT to shift.

Reason is the better part of caution. Pay attention to what's been said in this thread about how it works and then use reason to arrive at caution.
You now have 3 very knowledgable members advising and explaining....

Sorry guys...
Didn't mean to come across, too harsh...
Cautious is good...
Thanks Rich...
Best of luck Gentlemen...

You make a great point and I thing you are right

Does the car need to be on the dyno to make this adjustment?
Local Boy
11-22-2008, 12:09 PM
No...your tuner just needs your hand held tuner to make the adjustment...Then re-install the (adjusted) tune as usual...

My tuner e-mailed me a new tune today! Tomorrow i'll try it out and let you guys know the results.

The new tune works! No codes. Bob adjusted the range of the FRPS. He also richened the cold start-up. Bob did this on a Sat. all within 15min. of my first e-mail to him. If anyone needs tuning I highly recommend Bob Kurgan. He's located near Rockford, IL.
