I know that many do not drive their Marauders during winter or much at all in some cases. After figuring my next deployment dates and with winter upon us I have come to realize that my Marauder probably wont be driven for about 15+ months. What do you guys recommend that I do to prepare the car for the extended relaxation?

I have seen a few post about fuel stabilizers so I have added that to the list and the car is already covered and on car dollys but I have a few concerns about the air ride etc, can you guys think of anything else I should do? Thanks for the responses in advance.:help:

I always fill the tank but I do not put fuel stabilizers in. I disconnect the battery and give it a kiss:lovies2: and thats it. Oh yeah I do make sure its in park then I cancel collision coverage on it.

1. I would change the oil with AMSOIL to put a protective coat on all metal surfaces, so that your not spinning "dry" metal bearing surfaces when you attempt to start it up in 15+ months.
2. I would plug any opens "air filter intake, exhaust" to keep varmints out.
3. I would put sheets of BOUNCE in the engine compartment and inside the car. Mice HATE the smell of this stuff. We use BOUNCE when we winterized our camper. I should have done this when I did a short term store of my MM at Vandenberg AFB earlier this year, ground squirrels chewed up the main wiring harness...$2500+ insurance claim on that one.

So, you do not add anything to the gas. How long does the car sit before you take it out of storage? Mine is already stored and I did not add anything to the gas but a few here are telling me I should pull it out and add sta-bil and then put it back into storage. I take the battery out of the car and put it in a warm basement.

I would support it from the frame, so the suspension isn't carrying the weight, I wouldn't leave untreated fuel, been there done that. it goes bad way too quick. if bounce works, put it in the trunk as the critters get into there as well. stabil makes a fogging spray I havent used it yet, but that might be a good idea. an old-timer once told me to re-start the engine one last time with the oil cold. run 10-15 seconds and shut down. his theory was the thick cold oil will stay in bearings longer for storage. spray the door and trunk rubber with Motorcraft silicone spray. perhaps hoses as well.

and to keep the tires from getting flat spots.

I agree w/ jabird56, though if it were me, I'd drain the gas tank if it is 15+months. The new gas, even w/ Stabil would worry me for that duration of time...it gums up. Plus, even if it did not, it won't be the greatest gas to be flowing through your baby upon initial "contact". Just my opinion. I would also change oil before "parking it". That way, again, initial fire up is as best as possible.

Jason while you are gone if you would like me to help take care of it I'd be more than happy to. Just let me know. I got your back. But if you want to leave it completly isolated with no monthy/weekly start or drive, Drain the fuel tank. When you go to fire it up for the First time Put a little bit of ATF in through the spark plug holes before starting. Let it crank for about 10-20 seconds before putting the coils back in so it can somewhat prime itself.
