Sometimes my lettering on the stereo flickers like a power drain is going on.
I have that problem in my Durango, but thats because of the amps pulling power. It has something like 1800 watts.
But the marauder is stock. I dont get whats up. It happens at all different times.

Could be a dimmer switch problem. Is the radio on the light panel dimmer?

Monster,
Do a search on radio associated problems. This has been an ongoing problem since day 1 I believe. I don't think anybody found a solution. However, you are not alone. Mine does it.

not so much the radio, but the dash lights when the headlights are on. Mostly happens when I am braking.

Mine too,... I was told there is a highly trained team of monkeys hard at work on this problem, No bananas until they find a solution! :D

I never noticed the problem until I did the oil pressure gauge conversion...I'm sure it's been there all along, I just never looked that critically...it doesn't seem to be pronounced, just a very slight flicker...

Mine does it, but I always thought it was a feature, not a bug - seems to do it when the car passes into shadows.

This happens on my car, too, and I think I know why. MM's have a feature whereby the panel displays do not dim while the headlights are on during the day, i.e. when autolamp kicks on the lights when the wipers are activated. The light sensor will dim the panels when it detects a lower light level, such as at dusk, or when the car enters a garage or tunnel. I think what is happening is the light sensor is detecting a lower light level for some reason -- perhaps intermittently or it could be at the threshold where the dimming/not dimming occurs -- and this causes a flicker of the panels, including the radio. Also, the radio is made by a different manufacturer than the other panel displays (clock, climate control) and could be reacting differently to the voltage being sent to it by the panel dimming control.

It could be this dimming control is independant of the headlights, so that even with the headlights off the panel lights are dimmed when a certain light level is reached. Just a thought.

IT`S A FEATURE ON THIS CAR .IT ADJUSTS THE DISPLAY LIGHT LEVEL AS YOU DRIVE .

Try this...

Engine Off...

Headlights On...

Time of day: Dusk to night...

It seems that dash lights still "flicker" a little bit.... At least it seems to on mine...

Might have something to do with the control electronics... and nothing to do with the alternator/charging system as, at least I, originally thought.

HOLY CRAP! RF, I swear I was thinking of PM'ing you with this very detail! I could *swear* I noticed the dash lights flickering but only AFTER I did the oil pressure gage mod. Before that, I honestly never really noticed any flickering under any circumstance except under a high electrical load. But now, it's very noticeable with just the headlights on...

Maybe there's some sort of isolation of the oil pressure gage circuit that's required... perhaps the presence of the gage coil sets up some sort of oscillation.

TTA, have you previously posted this? Maybe another member did, I can't remember the solution.

No, first time I'm 'coming out', so to speak, about a gage flickering experience.

I'm usually pretty picky about these details, and I did spend a great deal of time in the driveway one evening trying to get some good nighttime shots of my dash and gages, back before the oil pressure gage mod. I'm SURE I would have noticed flickering if it was there.

Should be easy to narrow it down... I'll try unplugging the replacement sender and see if the flickering goes away. If it does, then there's something in the "new sender -> new gage" circuit that might be setting up some sort of oscillations in the electrical system.

Dim lights at idle is one thing, but flickering is another!
