Actually the Germans are pretty ingenious. There is a vent above the lid facing forward which forces air into the I/C and the engine compartment. The fin also has a vent which draws air into the engine compartment for the motor. So lots of air is naturally forced into the lid so it goes thru the I/C and some cooler fresh air makes its way to the fan. The faster you go, more cooler air is forced into the lid in a downward motion.
