I am having my rear bumper repainted because someone hit me. The bodyshop will have to stock up on factory black paint. I was wondering if this paint would be alright to use on the tail lights for the SS look... if that is what it is called.

I know a few of us have recomended stuff you can buy from Jegs in a can or something like that, but as long as my car is at the body shop I want to know if this paint will work or do I need to request a different one for the tail lights and backup lights. Thanks!

Yes it will work - clear coat the whole lens after removing the tape for the masked areas.

Spraypaint

You need a body shop to do it if you want it to come out best.

I did mine at home with spray paint. They look really nice in my opinion. You can do it at home you just have to take your time and make sure to prep and clean everything as you go. I laid about 6 coats of black on, fine wet sanded between coats and then cleared the whole lens, putting a total of about 5 light coats of clear on, fine wet sanding between coats. I'm going to take them off again in the summer and clean up some of the spots that I don't care for and re-clear them. Over all they are really good looking.

I want another set of tails that I can get tinted. I love the all black look.

Mine are spray painted and look very good. Its just all in the prep. BTW the black on our cars is at any paint store right on the shelf labeled black...... After you get done cross referencing all the numbers you will see that it is nothing more than a mass produced stock black. That being said any body shop you go to will have plenty of black. Good luck.

But not all "black" is black, if you look at the different vehicles, there are sometimes variences for a paticular shade of black, there can be 2-10 different variences in the mix for the paint. Now granted..... most black is just that, black. But, there are others out there that are not "just black" and will require a special mix.

If you want your black painted parts to match your Ford, just don't sand the parts, that way the paint will peel/blow off just like the OEM Ford paint does. :D :flamer:

No need to be sorry. I learned by my own hand. I took a shortcut, skipped looking up the mix "because black is black, right", it wasn't, the car, when compared to the painted panels, had a brown/red tint to it, wound up having to mix the color and re-do my work.
