All right. I got my Marauder just over 2 weeks ago. I love it. The only thing that I hate is the audio system. I need an entirely new setup. I'm looking at a variety of 6x8s online and have narrowed it down somewhat. I'm mostly looking at Pioneers.

The problem that I'm having is that certain sites, OK crutchfield, says that most of the speakers won't fit the front door. The depths seems to all be within a 16th of each other and the tweeters all seem to stick out about the same distance. So what's the problem? Is it a matter of magnet size? Is it the old bait and switch? Some models they just don't carry so I'm thrown for a loop.

To expand on my question...

Crutchfield says that the Pioneer TS-A6872R will fit in the front doors of an '04 Crown Vic, but not a MGM or MM...WTF? :mad2:

You can call me at 269 637 1994. We have used a lot of Pioneer speakers in your car with no problem.

Hey, guys, thanks for the feedback. John, I've seen that you've used the Pioneer TS-D801P's before. I was actually leaning toward either those or the 802's in all four corners. Any foreseeable (is that a word?) roadblocks?

The 801 and 802 both fit and sound good in your car.

I think the biggest problem w/ this car is not having tweeters up top. Having them in the door gives horrible sound staging. WHy they were still putting tweeters down in the doors by your knees in 2003....

Reference components. They fit and look awesome in the A-pillar pieces.

You can image any component speaker by aiming the tweeters...etc...within the speaker factory location...these speakers are actually pretty high up in the doors, if you ask me.

Of course I dont do car stereo installs for a living...

They are high up compared to the 1970s location. Even GM in the 1980s had dash mounted tweeters in their H body cars!!!! Vortech do you have more info on the reference components A pillar pieces?

Yes, more info on the Infinity's would be nice. I was looking at some Infinitys, mainly because they were available in a 2ohm variety to squeeze more out of an amp. I don't know that I'd like components in the rear though, mainly for aesthetic reasons with black tweeters on a light gray interior. I wouldn't want to mix and match fronts and rears and mess up the timbre. But I'm interested. Do you have a model number?

And, John, thanks for the info on the Pioneers. They are still on the top of a very short list.

There are no good reasons to put componets in the rear. A good coax is all you need. Spend the money up front and get an amp on the speakers. The Infinity are a nice speaker but are way to bright for my taste. The idea is to create a stge in front of you while you are driving. I have not been in one of these cars where it has been done. A good coax will do a decent job and you will not have to cut anything in the car.
