Hi,
I just had my rear BFG tires replaced. When I was driving around town everything was fine. When I went out on the interstate and sped up, my traction control light started flashing and my car slowed right down. Yes it's the same size BFG tires that was replaced. No, I wasn't spinning the tires. Checked it several times by turning the control off and on. Checked the wires to the sensors and they are intact. Did a sensor or a hub get damaged some how? Anybody else had this problem. Runs fine around town, kicks on around 40 mph.Tried searching threads but couldn't find any answers. Thanks, Tim

Check the rear sensors and hub 'teeth' for damage. The sensors are close to the hubs which have 'teeth' that are counted as they go by the sensor, giving speed info to the ABS/Traction control computers. I've heard debris (rust flakes, dirt) sometimes clings to the sensor or teeth giving false readings, so make sure this area is clean.

Sounds like the fronts and rears are reversed.

either that or they're the same size all around.

NO ppl, same size rear tires only been replaced with original BFG's. Didn't you read my original post? They did hit the wheels with a rubber mallet to free them from the axle. Haven't removed the rear rotors for inspection of debris yet. Girlfriend out of town with my car (hers she says?) until monday. Had to show her where to turn off the traction control to make the marauder driveable. Thanks for people who put in a positive post for me. Tim

I've seen several tire stores put on the wrong size even though they claimed they were the right size. Did you look and read the sidewall? on both rear tires? and the fronts? Or are you just claiming that they did what they were supposed to at the tire place?

It doesn't take a tire shop to screw it up either, the Mercury dealer's service department even screwed it up on my wife's car.

Brian,

Agreed. May be a mechanical problem, but I'd check out the obvious, first.

The first Marauder in Beaufort is owned by the County Coroner (of all people) and he took it to a local tire shop to have the OEM tires balanced and as a favor to him the "X'ed" them!!! The car wouldn't go over 35 MPH!!!

They finally figgered it out but it took 'em awhile!!:shake:

I had the same size all around on mine and it wouldn't go over 45 MPH with the TC on.....that didn't last long!!:argue:

Hi people,
Just to be sure, I went and checked what I have sittin here since my GF has the Marauder. I have the 245/55ZR18's sittin here at the house! I feel like a dumb ass now. I had my spare front tires put on my rears! Now I won't be able to change them till monday. Thank you. I am very humbled now. Tim

No problem, Tim. We have seen this "tire swap" happen many times over the past 5 years. The symptoms you described just pointed in the direction of the simplest and most obvious cause.

When I have my car in for service, I have them write in large letters on the service order ... "DO NOT ROTATE TIRES". Even after that, I will check visually to make sure someone actually read it -- before I even get in it.

You can still drive your MM around this weekend. Just turn off the traction control.
