Okay so I turn into the driveway where my office is, and start heading up the slow steep hill (bout 300ft driveway). I hear this "pop" and then grinding with wheel speed. I'm thinkin WTF did a brake pad fall off?! I apply the brakes and it went away a bit but still making some pretty good noise. Only way to discribe it is if you've ever put drag wheels on a car with cobra brakes and the calipers rubbed the wheels. Its pretty damn loud. I then parked the car and put the e-brake on/off a few times and drove it around the parkling lot and it seemed to be quieter but still squealing. I did a walk around and looked at the rotors and everything looked fine.

I'm gona get my work done quick and start heading home. Its snowing outside and I if this thing blows up I do NOT want to be on the side of the road in the middle of a snow storm at night.

I had the same sound and it was the E-brake. I found that the cable was not adjusted and the r/r had presure on the shoes when released. I had to adjust the cable and when I had the rear rotors Off i could see the witness markes of the adjuster hitting the axle/wheel studs. Good luck repairing the noise. I took mine into the dealer 2 times and they could not find the concern. I repaired in about 2 hrs at home.

Update, Got under a soggy, cold, wet snowy car yesterday in the garage to try and diagnose the problem. Looks like one of the internal shoes in the e-brake "shifted" some how and was rubbing metal/metal on the side of the inner drum. Just re-installed it and all is well...

It made a horrible sound. I thought a rock got stuck in the caliper or something.

But she's A-okay.

Yup. E brake. Mine sounded like I was dragging a gym locker behind me. They rust up and then fall apart. When mine went, I ended up replacing both rear rotors as well.

They seem to come apart due to lack of use, I used mine ONCE and it sounded like Jacob marley was jogging behind my car!
