View Full Version : Could pads be all I need?

Remember the brake problem I was having with the light coming on? Well one guy at a bodyshop told me it was the pads. Since I had the car there for a crash I figured I should ask. He told me that the pads are probably worn out and that's why the light is on. I said they don't squeak nor are the rotors warped. He said someone probably topped off the fluid (53,000 miles ago) and changed the pads.
The fluid is pretty dark and I think will need a changing anyway, but he insists that it's the pads and the fluid is ok. I had the brakes serviced at 70,000 miles and I now have 133,000 miles on the car.
Does anyone agree with this guy, should it be the fluid or both?
Right now I am leaning toward changing the pads to see if this fixes the problem. If not, then I will bleed the brakes.
Thoughts?

Pads cannot turn a light on. Master cylinder low, parking brake, or a short are the only things that can do that. If you want a brake job, rotors and all, i'll trade you labor for a couple shiny round things:D

Naa, I've done this before and I can do it again. The bleeding will be new to me though. I have never heard of a $1250 brake job Bob.

Are the pads lifetime warranted? Rotors?
I save alot of money with the lifetime warranties on all of my
vehicles.

+1. There is NO electrical connection between the pads and the brake light.

You don't have an Audi or a VW. Your MM does not have a low pad life light. I have no idea what some of you guys think you are talking about. It's like a 1960's detroit car, it's a warning light that will let you know if your proportioning valve doesn't come back to center
