This is just to give Zack a heads-up as to the details about my SC install at DR. I wasn't sure where to post it, but then I thought "Hey, I'll put it in the Reinhart Automotive section. I know he'll see it there". :)
So, here are your questions:
"I dont want to get on your bad side because I enjoy your posts.
But.... weren't you supposed to get the 'prototype' Self-Contained Supercharger? The one that has been out for almost a year now?
Tell us the month you dropped your car off in Florida please."
First and Foremost, this sort of question as well as the way you've asked it would never get you on my bad side. Fair questions, and happy to answer.
So, Dennis posted up that he'd like a volunteer to take the first of these self contained units. He'd cover the labour, I think it was (you can check this for me - I no longer remember) for the first one to step up. Well, I stepped up, but my mouth was faster than my booking arrangements. Since you're the detail man, I'll let you figure out when the offer was made and when I accepted - again, I don't recall. What I do recall is that after stepping up, I made Dennis wait for what was probably two months or more before I actually got my car to him. I had to wait for the aforementioned "Dually" (sorry, aforementioned as in "mentioned in the now-locked post") to arrive, then I had to get time to drive down. This was probably mid April. By that point, I figured there were probably half a dozen people who beat me to the punch. When I finally got the car there, I didn't even bring up "the deal" because I would have felt like a tool asking the guy to honour something from months ago that was, afterall, meant to be a prototype test.
Now, as it happens I have a genetic trait wherein when it comes to automotive repairs I say things like "Don't worry about my project. Its not urgent, so if you have some good money projects feel free to work on them before you look at mine". This is why I just picked up our 76 Country Squire from the shop where it was dropped off 27 years ago to be repainted. Sadly, my Dad's last comment to the bodyman before leaving the shop was, well, read what I just said before. Its genetic. At least Dennis didn't die while my car was at his shop. Lets all take a moment to think something nice about Mr. X, our friend, who didn't know that he wouldn't have 28 years to finish our car.
The next thing that you should know is that a 2900 km trip isn't done on a whim. I needed an excuse to go to Florida again thus allowing me to pick up the car. Originally, I had been planning on taking my niece, nephew, girlfriend and mom to Disney for Christmas. Too bad, though, this plan fell through.
My next step was to look for a new excuse to get down to "America's Wang" - sorry, not trying to be insulting, it just came up on the Simpsons. This came to me in a gift basket last month. work is sending me to the factory for some witness tests in Texas. From there, its only a hop to Florida by plane. Nice chat with my boss and Voila! I'm in Florida January Ninth.
To all of this was Mr Reinhart privy. I've kept him well apprised of my travel plans and he has adjusted his schedule accordingly. Never has there been a delay, never have I been kept in the dark about progress. In fact, he has a habit of calling somewhat more often than I would think necessary simply because he is trying to ensure that both he and I are on the same page.
Also, to all of the above I should add the following: The scope of this project has grown substantially since first we made this deal. When I left his shop in April he was in possession of a "to do" list about as long as your arm. If he didn't have it all finished by January, I couldn't possibly hold it against him. He certainly never expected to be faced with the ever growing list.
And finally, I do not "hate" anyone on this or any other site. I may be saddened by conduct or comment. May even feel slighted or hurt. But rarely if ever has anyone here said anything to make me feel like I should "hate" them. I do like DR as I've been treated very well by him. I do like you because you seem to have a lot of heart and a great interest in advancing Marauder knowledge. However, I do not (and this is just me speaking here) condone nor proscribe to the methods used by some here to resolve conflicts. They have a different take on how conflicts should be resolved. Some even feel that they are performing a public service. Well, that is their philosophy, and they have their own reasons for it. Mine is different, that is all.
So, I am not on your bad side. I am not offended by the questions. I am at peace with my choices. All is good, and I could ask for nothing more.
Hope this answers your questions and, in turn, does not get me on YOUR bad side.
All the best,
David
