:censor: alright day two of motor removal.. lucky me i get to do it on a hilly driveway with no space in a one car garage and limited tools :) so lucky!! anyways not sure what the problem was to begin with, maybe a spun rod bearing or something gay like that but I was wondering if anyone had any advice on anything i should do when i do the rebuild, I would love to SC it but unfortunately im lucky enough to barely have the money to cover a rebuild.. since i was quoted 4000 at a local engine rebuilding facility anyways let me know what ur input is.. thanks!

Zack could probably swing over and have it out for you in half an afternoon with a Swiss Army Knife, just shoot him a PM... oh... nm

Removing the engine isn't all that difficult, just remember to check for harness connections before and while you lift it out. As for rebuilding it and never having done one before, I'd suggest looking for a engine builder. I was in the same boat, in thinking I could rebuild mine, until I took off the timing chain cover. There are 4 chains in the setup and they are tensioned by hydraulic powered tensioners. Now upon reassembly, lining up all 4 cams and getting the tensioners activated to put tension on the chains is what made me accept getting it build by a professional. All torque to yield bolts must be replaced, and Head studs and caps are recommended. Do you sort of get the picture now?

can you explain what the engine is doing or the sounds it makes that warrant it to be rebuilt?

the slight knocking in the motor haha... kinda sounds like a marble in a coffee can at about 1500 rpms but can definately hear it louder in the bottom end

Also when removing parts , bag um and mark them. It makes a world of difference when you re install the engine. I hated holding a bolt and wondering where it went. Just a helpfull hint.

Well rebuilding the bottom end should be simple enough, and it sounds like you can get by not rebuildting the heads but the timing chains will give you issue unless you find someone who has done these engines before. Check with Zack on MCM, he'll probably fill you ears with tons of info.

You're not alone, I've put out about $7,000+ so far this year and YES I'm still making payments, but the MM is now part of the family.

$2500 trans less than a month, and a thousand miles after i bought it.
While i still owed $13k called the loan company and told them that they could come pick it up. They didn't like that idea.
So i had to fix it.

Its just the way life is sometimes.

You can get an 8,000 mile engine from Karkraft for about $2800.00 complete drop in or buy an Aviator engine for $1500.00 and swap the intakes. Depends on your budget and how quick you need to get back on the road.

Dont turn the crank, go with a new forged with matched bearings and an 8 bolt flex plate. Its worth the few extra bucks..

Cheapest, quickest, most likely to be succesful fix would be to put in a relatively low mileage engine from a wrecked Marauder.

I got parts from modularmustangracing.com they were good to deal with and will answer your questions. I would buy a forged bottom end. I did my rebuild all my own and its not that bad just pay attention to details when you time the cams at reassembly. Follow the torque seqencese!! Put headers on engine and then put engine in car its easier.:D

When dealing with cams, white out is your best friend, pull the front timing cover and set the motor up at TDC on number 1 cyl. Then mark away with the whiteout on all of the gears and chains (all of the timing marks on the sprockets should line up as per the manual). Then proceed to do the bottom end. All of the marks should line back up when you reassemble. Give the motor a spin by hand and make sure all of the marks you made line back up with the white out and if so, you are good as gold..

If you keep the chain taught when removing the crank (keeping the chain on the cam sprockets). Its alot easier to retime everything, but most of my work was on Foreign cars and not Ford stuff so other will chime in with better solutions, but it should be doable. Chances are, if you can release the tension on the chain, you can get enough slack to get the crank out.

If you decide to go this route, remember to cap all of the rod bolts with rubber caps so you dont nick the crank as you weasel it in and use lots of assembly lube.

Someone on here might have a spare engine. I needed one once and I got the hook up. You can also look for engines in the Lincoln Mark 8's. I think they are a little different and have about 280hp and not 302, but it's still the same overall 4.6 DOHC. Just do a swap. I believe it will be cheaper and it will save a lotta time.

I'm sorry to say this, but if you are fear of losing your job, still paying for this car and not to mention have to worry about living, why are you doing this? I would save as much money as possible and just worry about the bills and food. Cars can wait. I'm in a weird situation right now and have found it very easy to live off of $10 a day or sometimes nothing. If you have cashed saved I guess you can do it, but if you are unsure of your income I wouldn't spend my money on a thing for pleasure. No movies, no nothing... except condoms because they save you money! ;)

Good luck with everything!

haha that was actually really funny, but im not really in fear of losing my job I already lost it ahwile back, im on unemployment now and in order to find a job I need a car to get back and forth... but I was looking on e-bay and I have found that the lincoln continental 4.6s and town car motors are suprisingly cheap, even some mark 8's but after changing everything over or if I could use those motors and swapping some parts would my chip and everything still work to put me back to the power I had?
