View Full Version : Recommend a brake upgrade - or factory OEM?

The factory brakes are down and need replacing (53,500km - just over 33,000miles). I have been very happy with the performance of the factory braking system.
How many of you have upgraded the brakes to either slotted or cross-drilled rotors, and if so, any performance gain to be had? How much of a premium in $$ over factory? (Obviously under the current financial situation most of us are in, I'm not spending $2K+ on fancy setups). Also, I can't go bigger as I use 16" steel wheels for the winter, so massive rotors are out of the question, too.
I read an article some time ago about the possible benefits if slotted but it's not a track-dawg car as it only will see a roadcourse once a year. It's primarily highway driving (70-30 hwy vs city).
Thoughts, comments, etc are appreciated.

I had an issue with my brakes overheating. I had to stomp the hell out of them to get any normal type of stopping pattern. I got some power slot slotted rotors with hawk pads and will not go back. These brakes have saved my ass on countless occasions. No need for any fancy mods as the rotors are the same size as OEM as well as the pads.

+1 with the power slot rotors, I went with the Napa adaptive1 ceramic pads and I'm happy with them, I also installed stainless steel brakelines as well.
P.S good luck getting the power slot front rotors! I waited 3 months for mine! But I should state that I got the cryo treated rotors, I'm not sure if the regular rotors are in stock?

I have OEM size Baer Decelarotor & sever duty Ford pads in the front.
I have the cheapest rear rotors money can buy.I have not put them on yet.
Very happy with results.
The first set of Baer rotors warped after almost three years in service.
A member here got me a set of replacements under the MFG. warranty.
They grab nice!

I too have the Wilwood front brake kit.
Who manufactures rear rotors that match the appearance of the front Wilwood rotors?
I cannot justify spending the $$$$ for an entire Wilwood rear kit.
Thanks.

I put PowerSlot rear rotors on my car and painted the calipers black so that it would sort of match. At least it doesn't stand out as much. Someday I'd like to do the c-clip elimination mod and put Wilwoods in back as well.
This is what my rears look like:

I have Hawk HPS pads and Comand heavy duty rotors on Blue Thunder. Stock sizes. Overkill for our normal driving, but did not fade with multiple back to back runs at the drag strip. Definitely stops better than stock.
The wife wants the same brake treatment on her Black Thunder when we can afford to upgrade.

I have ebay Race concept Drilled slotted rotors/and there "house" brand of pads. I too didn't have the money too spend but the car was getting scary in high speed stops. These only cost $200.00 for all four with pads and free shipping. I can't get over how much better than stock these are! Very smooth and precise braking.

Making matching rears in a simple slot pattern should not be that hard at all. Even the combo drill/slot appears to be do-able. Nice job guys!

How many miles do you have on the new rotors? Do you have the catalog numbers for F&R rotors? Does anyone have the part number for the Ford OEM rear rotors? I have 57K and the rears are starting to chirp.

What application are the Wilwood brakes for. I went to their website and don't see a kit for the Marauder or the Crown Vic.
Thanks
