View Full Version : Valet Key

It's been a little cold here lately (around freezing all this week) so I've been warming the car up with my Valet key, and switching keys when I leave for work.
So I drove in today in my usual 'Hair on fire' manner. Imagine my surprise when I got to work, and the Valet key was still in the ignition!
I was under the impression that using that key would reduce performance. I don't know where I got that impression from, but it wasn't the manual, which doesn't mention the Valet key.
Just an FYI - all the Valet key seems to do is not physically open the trunk, and not unlock the lock covering the remote trunk release (for those so equipped).
I guess this is another reason for me to get Dennis's chip :)

I read the same thing too, but where???
At least we have a valet key my 1998 GM didn't, so you couldn't keep anything in the car if you gave it to the garage to park.
I had to write to ford and ask where their head was when then came up with having one key Locking/unlocking everything! :mad2:

You have a lock covering the remote trnk release? Mine is internal of the trunk release button itself. The Valet key will allow you to drive the car anyway you want. It just won't allow you to open the trunk, or glove box if locked.

I think we all have had the same dream--that the key not only prevented access to the trunk , so you may put valuables in while handing the Valet key off , but that it would "prevent the car from going over 35MPH" or something...so don't feel bad --I had the same inpression...Hummmm..we'll have to escalate this to hight ups in the know--maybe it was 'just a dream'...Tom..

'Covering' isn't really the right word. The lock and the button are the same thing. You can lock the button out from opening the trunk remotely - I think we're talking the same thing.
The good thing is that Dennis' chip with the secondary program will give us this functionality.

The valet KEY supplied with the car will only inhibit opening the trunk and the glovebox, it has no effect on performance. The valet PROGRAM from Dennis or from FordChip is what prevents the car from going over 35MPH...
