Just found a pair of OEM rears and this was the first thing I asked since they'd been in the store for a while. (They had a build date in 2007)
Saw this a while ago. Good to know and thanks for bringing it up again. I've told friends and family and no-one I spoke to knew about it.

I want more evidence and tests before Im ready to start handing out checks.what percentage of them fail versus newer tires .Personally I buy tires after thoroughly checking them out.Ive never had a problem where my tire just explodes unless they were leaking air, underinflated, punctured through the course of driving around construction zones, and so forth.Take a walk around a parking lot at your nearest walmart and you might be surprised at the quality of tire alot of people drive on.Now i dont dispute the fact that a rubber tire over time might lose its effectiveness but i wonder do we need to now change our tires based on age and wear.if your tire is past experation date but has great tread should we throw them away and are you telling me that sitting in a wharehouse is worse than actualy driving on them?Follow me here you buy tires that are made two months before they are 40,000 mile tires and you drive 2000 miles a year after 10 years you would still have half tread life but the tire would be 10 years old are they saying we should tire based on tread and date come on see it for what it is a ploy by trial lawyers who are looking for a paycheck

was the tire that individual was driving on underinflated?the one test they did was only what would happen if the tire came apart at high speed not good enough for me.How many cars are now on the road with expired tires that are doing just fine ?what scientific principles were applied to abc"s findings ,any controled settings, variables and so on.The only experts who were used to prove their theory was the lawyer and plantiff in tha lawsuit? The only real test they did only proved losing a tire at high speeds is dangerous nothing more. The report starts out by pulling your heart strings with the tale of a tragedy and then they set about proving what they want you to believe.Take emotions away and there is little evidence to go on that why they started the segment with emotion.Right now how many "expired tires are out there and what % of them fail as oppose to tire that are not expired. With millions of drivers on the road with expired tires like they reported the streets would be paved in blood cause i guarantee you over 50% drivers out there have expired tires or worse

This is a VERY important aspect of tires, I had no idea existed...
Thank you VERY MUCH for posting this!
I will check the "born" date from this point foward...and NOT buy any tire I consider too old...PERIOD!
