My 36k mile MM has never given me an engine problem. It has always run smooth and great. I drove the car the other day and at the top of 1st WOT, it had a little stutter, where you could hear the engine break up just barely and then smooth out, it was right near redline. I did WOT 1-2 2 or 3 times and it did it every time. Great. Every time I drive the car it gets some WOT runs so I definitely notice this as a brand new occurrence.

I'll have to take it out tonight if the road is dry and see if it still does it.

I'll be checking plugs, changing fuel filter, and what else? COP's? What should I check about the COP? The plugs and fuel filter are original

Thanks

Steve

Definitely check the plugs.
If you have a bad COP it should throw a code.
Maybe a COP is coming loose....although it is not likely because the coil covers hold them down nice and tight.

What's the correct way to do plugs on AL heads, warm or cold? I have heard conflicting theories on this. Also TR55's or TR55 GP's?

Stone cold. Use antisieze and a torque wrench.

^^^what Mitch said^^^

Except about the antiseize...that part is still hotly debated.

Always do plugs in an aluminium motor COLD, and always...ALWAYS use a torque wrench.

Yep, cold engine.
Use antisieze sparingly and an INCH-LB wrench...recommended torque is really low....something like 11 FT LBS.
I'll check my shop manual to confirm.

I use torque wrenches on everything, I have a shop manual for the car as well, don't trouble yourself looking up the torque value, I'll find it when I get home. Would you guys use the platinum version of the TR55 (GP) or the regular copper? Thanks guys

I'll check my shop manual to confirm.

(My FT-LB torque wrench won't 'click' properly when it is that close to it's minimum rating of 10 FT LBS....so I use an INCH-LB wrench.)

I have inch pound wrenches down into the 0-50 in lb range. I like buying tools.

I use a Snap-On 1% precision 0-50 lb-in torquometer!! Just happen to have this model.

Zack sent you an e-mail, says it's grazing the rev limiter, you don't need to change anything.

Mine used to do it also when I changed tire sizes. Are your tires worn down or anything?

I played with my tune and adjusted the red line by 500rpms and shift mph up or down by 1pm. I can't remember but that's what I did before I got a Zack tune.

You may be hitting the rev limiter. My 03 used to do that all the time with the superchips tune from the 1725 tuner. Push up your rev limiter or adjust the shift point.

Will do, this is a better answer than a mechanical or electrical problem. Yeah the rear tires are wearing kinda fast......

I run the car to WOT all the time and it never did this until recently, I am being told the cold weather and/or more worn tires are getting the revs up too high at a given speed and hitting the limiter

I was told by Scott Beer that the parameters for high end shifting are limited in our EEC's so tuners really have to know how to make sure you don't hit the limiter!! Cold air.....hard tires.....full moon.....high tide and a dog in heat all effected mine until Mr. Beer worked his magic!!

I actually think he removed the limiter as I see the tach at 7K A LOT.....but it is still doing fine at 189,059 miles!!:bows:

Can you move you limiter up a couple hundred to see??
