View Full Version : Calling all PA land barges...

Howdy MM fans, anyone wanna race?

Actually I've been wanting to say hi for a while and with the impala forums down today I did some trolling here. I would also like to know if there are any MM owners in the PA/NJ area that would like to face off at the track.

I first heard about the MM on the Impala forums and have only seen a couple on the street. There have been a few interesting posts in the Imp forums about the MMs, as you can imagine, but I'd rather not get into an argument over who's best, etc. I'm actually surprised to see so many of you going for major mods on such a new car. Your work will not only be rewarding now but it significantly helps the stragglers that buy a used MM and want to know what next.

Anyway, I go drag racing as much for the social aspect as for the thrill of racing. It would be nice to have some other type of land barge (er, I think they call us grocery getters) to run against. I figure there is always a faster car out there so I'm not hell bent on beating all of em, I just want to do well and have fun. And if I can meet a bunch of nice folks along the way it's all that much better!

Let me know if anyone wants to meet at an area track. The summer has been horrible so I'm hoping for a good fall.

Glen, You are most welcome here. We have quite few other SS owners who frequent this board.

I'm not sure why you are surprised at people modding the cars "this new". It's really in keeping with the spirit the car was designed to be. In fact it was part of Mercury's early plan to offer cars with different special packages, over time. They just don't know how to market cars like this anymore.
I thought people were modding Impalas when they were new too?

Hey Stumpy, welcome aboard. Many of us here are fans of the 94-96 SS. I live in central NJ about 15 minutes from Englishtown Raceway. There are several other MM's in the area and we meet every now and again for some fun. As a matter of fact, I believe I'll be headed to E-town on the evening of 9-26-03 if you'd like to tag along. I'm going to try to get a few friends together so we can all run.

Perhaps it's just me, I usually hold off on mods until the warranty has expired!

Constable, unfortunately I have to work next Friday night (very rare event). How about Saturday? I really like going there on Saturdays.

Thanks all for the warm welcome!

Dealer, I've never been to Atco before. Do you go there often? It would be my pleasure to meet you there later this week. As for the street, I'd rather play it safe and do my racing at the track!

Besides, I don't have anything more than a bolt on car at the moment and I don't mind sharing. My best ET to date is 14.01 @ 99 MPH in fairly good weather. Hopefully I can get that down with a new TC that I'm installing next weekend.

You can easily recognize me at the track. I write things like, "eggs, milk, another trophy" on my rear window. :D

If you're from Philly, what track do you go to???

The only ones I've gone to are; E-town, Maple Grove and Cecil county. E-town is a great track but unless you got DRs you're not likely to hook. Maple grove doesn't really do much in the way of test and tune or grudge racing. Cecil county is good but it definitely has that wild wild west atmosphere.

I've been meaning to go to Atco but just haven't made it. I live in Limerick near Pottstown so it's a bit inconvinient, but heck they are all a bit of a drive so I'm open to anything.

How was the track and the air today? I'm out of town this weekend so I likely missed another good weekend. :alone: This summer has been so unfair to us racers. :mad2:

Oh so you're a wanabe Philadelphian!!! J/K. Atco is a pretty nice track. The air was good yeasterday. Beautiful day. I'm in Northeast Phila. about 45 minutes from Atco. It's about 90 minutes to e-town or Maple Grove. Never been to Cecil, it's about 1 hour away.

Wanabe Philadelphian? Hmm, I would venture a guess that anyone who wants to be a Philadelphian would be welcome with open arms, rather 1 open arm with the other hand in their pocket extracting the 6% city income tax. No thanks, I'll probably never be a Philadelphian!

it's only 4.325% LOL, RAY

Well then if it's ONLY another 4.325 % above the 2.9% and rising state income tax then definitely count me in, NOT! Sometimes I regret ever leaving Texas with it's 0.0% and steady income take rate.

I might be going to ATCO this Friday with my MM and some of my Mustang posse. I've never ran the car so I don't know what to expect. Gonna have to bug out of work early to do it but I deserve the time off. It's a shame there isn't a decent track in Montgomery County. There definately is enough abandoned shopping centers and it would get the punks off of the streets. :burnout:

I would like them to take the old Byberry State Hospital at Byberry and Roosevelt Blvd and make a drag stip. It's been vacant for 10 years. Big piece of property. I will never happen.
