I know long trips is a NO NO....
Thanks...

shouldn't if you go slow enough. make sure its in N though lol. you can do long trips just disconnect the drive shaft from the diff and wire it up and out of the way making sure it stays in the trans tailhousing.

Put the back wheels on the dolly and lock the steering wheel in place.....problem solved!!:beer:

Yeah, I wouldn't do that with the back wheels on the ground. An automatic transmission can't lubricate itself unless the engine is turning the pump.
But, in some areas it may not be legal to pull one by the back wheels. I don't know that for sure, but I was told that once because the steering lock may come loose and cause more serious issues.

THat short of a trip will be fine.
Back when I didn't know any better, I towed a 1972 T bird, 429, C6 auto, from rhode island to connecticut, w/ the rear wheels on the ground and trans in neutral. I put a lot of miles on that car afterwards and the trans never gave me any problems. I have no idea why it was okay after being towed for that many miles at 65+ mph

There's your answer!
That transmission is bulletproof!..:bows:
BTW: What did you do with that big block T-Bird??

It had 85,000 original miles, and was stored from 1983-late 90s, I bought it, slapped 1970 D0VE closed chamber heads and an early model (straight up) timing set on it, and 3.50 nodular limited slip center section and 31 spline axles on that car and drove it all over the place when I was in college. I ended up selling it to a guy who stripped the drivetrain and probably crushed the car. No one wanted it when I was selling it because it was one of the "big ugly" thunderbirds. THe only guy who could come up w/ $1500 just wanted the engine and drivetrain
It was a dented up POS but it was totally 100% rust free. I have never owned a car that was truly as rust free as my 72 was. It could easily have been restored. It drove nice, had power windows, power seats, AC, tilt wheel, etc., and was a powerful car.

Ed, you crack me up...:D
I just need to get this Bad Boy to the muffler shop after I install my SSW long tubes...
I'm actually thinking about driving it, with open headers the 3-4 miles to the shop...After all...the ticket (if I'm caught) will probably cost as much as the rental anyway...I think...:rolleyes:
I think I know the answer to this one...But what would you guys do? :D

If you don't lean into the go peddle too hard you should be able to make it without too much attention.......That's what I had to do when I put the cobra exhaust setup on. BUT, you WILL lean into it and it will sound purdy, don't fight the feelin, it's only a need. LOL You should be OK, just drive it.

I'd drive to the shop, if you get pulled over immediately let the officer know that you have an appointment at the muffler shop, and that you were just trying to save some $$$. Hopefully based on his discretion he'll cut you a break.

Build the exhaust myself. I hope you aren't putting a run of the mill pinch bent quicky muffler shop exhaust behind those purdy headers

Get electric cutouts installed when you get there. Best of both worlds!

If you are really worried, have someone in the MM with it running, in neutral, on the dolly if its only a couple miles. Then you have the trans getting lubed. But seriously, 3-4 miles is not going to hurt anything
Lime green with some Twenny Fo inch rimz, should have kept it!

It's only gonna be a couple of miles... right? Or are you gonna be taking the long route around the Island! Ooo, those Samoans are gonna be in on a rude awakening. See example:
1. Samoan sleeping--->:sleepy:
2. LocalBoy------------>:burnout:
3. LocalBoy passing Samoans house--->:eek:

Speaking of Samoans... my wife's 1/2 sister and brother are part Samoan, they are arriving at O'Hare airport in Chicago tomorrow morning at 5am, and will be welcomed with -5 degree weather followed by a snow storm later!

LOL no way. There were certain persons that would tell me they liked that car though. It was a big ugly car but I don't build donk mobiles. I saw a 72-76 Lincoln Mark (same exact platform as my T bird) out near me on Indian Head Highway that had some huge steam roller 20" wheels on it, I almost cried when I saw it. So tasteless.......
