I was just looking at a set of these (winterforce 225/60/17) for my truck for winter...

how do you like them, and would you advise spending the extra $15 to have them studded?

I know my local tire store said to studd when new because they would not do it once the tires were used. My 1st set of rear WinterForce tires only lasted two seasons without studds. I had my second rear set studded and they were in much better shape after two seasons. Really made a difference in the traction starting out. The front WinterForce tires are still in great shape. All four are resting comfortably in my garage as I decided to remove the DTR from daily driver service this past July. I now have four studded Coopers on my Aveo hatchback. For a light car its a real beast in the snow. I regulary pass 4x4s that are going to slow. :D

IMHO anti lock brakes are useless in snow. I do not have them on my Aveo and do not miss them at all...

With warmer temperatures, we are having a chinook, the winterforce work fantastic. I wonder if I should pick up another set of rear studded winterforce.

What happens when you get a flat rear and have to use your spare will the use of one studded screw your car up?

No, but it ma like to pull to one side on ice, I would imagine.
