Personally, I've bought, modded, and sold cars about every 18 months during the past 5 years. Not because I didn't like one or the other, but because I wanted to be able to experience more than just one car (and I can't afford more than one or two at a time). Now I'm back in the market for another MM.
BTW: I'm a long-time member, but have been away for a few years (got aggravated reading stupid posts). I started lurking here about an hour ago and am already annoyed by you. You suck at life. I think you're most likely 14 and do not own a Marauder... or any other car for that matter. Your posts remind me of old-school AOL Chat Rooms that centered around D-bags who asked ridiculous questions.
Now I may be wrong about my assumptions of you. BUT... you definately are an annoying poster. Seems to me that many other members have made it known already.
See you in a few years when I come back to tell someone else off.

Is it Me .... I am always thinking about getting a Jaguar, it was a choice Jag or Marauder, Marauder won out but I always wonder if it was the right choice. Now with all this snow I wonder if I should have gone with the other two I looked at, the Phaeton or the Audi A8L. AWD really would be handy with all this snow.
So is it just a case of the other car is looking so much better (grass is greener...) or do you know something that you are not sharing with the rest of us?
You are definitely an anomaly on this board. Personally, I cannot understand how you even ended up with a Marauder since you don't seem to fit the owner profile at all. In nearly 5 years of ownership, I have never met an MM driver who had any second thoughts about getting a Marauder at all. Seems to me that you think, rethink and question every decision after the fact. Most of us did all that thinking BEFORE walking into the showroom. We knew what we wanted and are still very happy with our decision.
Please do us a favor and go get that Jaguar, VW or Audi and give those boards the benefit of your 2 AM wisdom.

Nothing wrong with 'stangs 'cause it seems we all have a couple of 'em, and our '93's still looking good. Is it every 3/4/5/6 years you buy a new cars, or is it that for everyone who wants a Marauder one of you has to sell yours?
It seems strange that with so many diehard enthusiast's now selling their cars is there something we should know about?

Just a quick note on the warranties expiring, the after market extended warranties market is in full competition. I purchased one for my 2003 Marauder for less than $900 for the next 60,000 miles. It has many options and levels but so far it is paying for itself, in only my 2nd month of ownership. I had a wiper control module fry my wiper system or the wiper motor fry the module, either way they both needed to be replaced by someone with smaller hands than I have and the out of pocket for me was minimal. So far so good.

Get the mouse out of your pocket! You are not speaking for everyone. For the first genners, maybe. For me, I don't think the Marauder is the one and only best car of all time. It is a fun, distinctive, good looking car for the price. If I had $40,000 cash to spend on a car, and I had no cars at all at the time I had the money to burn, I would have bought something more expensive. I'm not sure what my fancy would be in a higher price bracket but it would have probably been more along the lines of a newer 750 BMW. But no one car is the best car. Even if I bought something really expensive it would not eliminate the urge to want to know what some other car was like.
For a little over $20k cash when I bought the car, it was the closest I could get to what I was feeling like owning at the time. I didn't like absolutely every feature of the car. I could list what I dislike about it but that's pointless. Suffice to say, it lacks refinement in a lot of areas. But for what it cost and for what Ford put together, that's what you're going to get. I liked enough about the car to buy it. The fact that I still own the MM says something. I am young and I buy and sell cars frequently as I have a short attention span and get bored easily. It's a big heavy comfortable car and there aren't too many around, as far as cars go. The fact that I don't daily drive the Marauder helps. It is a treat to drive it then and I am able to overlook build quality issues that otherwise would annoy the hell out of me if I had to drive the car daily and/or regularly over long distances.
Bought the MM in 01/07 and still have it though! This is the longest I've owned a newer car since my first car.

Run from the newer beemers, my mom has one and its aweful....not to mention I can OWN IT... :)
E39 is a much better platform. Her "I-drive" whatever its called is HORRIBLE (740il) Takes 20 minutes to get the traction control turned off.
The only thing I found that could rape an MM for close to the money is a slightly used M5. I ALLLLLLLLLLLMost got one.

Are you comparing to a blown MM? Because a lot of V6 cars in the year 2008 run faster than a showroom stock MM did and get better gas mileage at the same time. I had a TL-S 3.2 vtec and that car had 42 less horsepower, and was quite a bit faster, stock for stock. Interior space was more than sufficient. I still think about getting a newer TL.

Ill say it, sad but true....
IT IS NOW CONSIDERED AN OLD CAR
SORRY, the car was poorly optioned from factory, and bare bones to begin with... the new performance sedans offer much more, REGARDLESS OF PRICE!
I LOVE the Marauder, and I only sold mine because it was a lemon, but it is now at an odd point... old enough for it to be almost comletely outdated, but about to raise in value again.... cant get much lower than current market value for one.

Exactly, Hell we don't even get HID's from the factory. No Nav Screen options, our OEM tires (face it they suck ass at everything.)
The E39 M5's I was looking at were loaded. And they were plenty comfy. with 14 way adjustable seats it make take a bit to get it right but when you do...oh baby.
mid-high 12's stock. Turn without roll, braking without going 'uhhh will she stop?' And who can complain with a 6-speed.

My Marauder was an up and down grade from my Subaru Legacy also 04.
My Subie was a stepping stone car, I knew that from the moment I got it. It was a fill the gap and solve the problems car. What I didn't know before I got it was how good it would be in snow or on ice. Yes I knew how good the AWD system was but until I had my own on my own route driving where I always do, I didn't realize it was that good. I used to try and get it stuck, and fail. But it was SLOW!!! and the light grey interior just depressing, I would hit my head on speed bumps, on the roof, and elbows on the doors/windows...just a depressing car, except in winter.
My Marauder has everything my Subie lacked. Speed sensitive stereo with sub, which doesn't work :( better sound insulation but still has alot of tire noise. (Not nearly as bad as the Subie), a satifying thump when you close the doors without the window wobble. All though the gaps in everything suck. The blinking led's are also annoying. The seat blet, why the heck does the Marauder had the seatbelt sockets inside the seat bolster? A comfortable seat becomes a pain in the hip.
Now I like everything else about my Marauder, although I must say it does not bring the same level of confidence that it will start or not stall that my Subie did.
Likes:
leather interior
accelleration just right
elbow room, finger pointing room, head neck room, leg room, knee room.
stereo is better than Subie but not great.
keypad entry, once I got my code is fantastic.
atleast I only have one key now, even if it is bulky.
performance.
bit laggy but no where near Subie lag.
Winter
A Marauder is nowhere as good, reguardless of winter tires or not, as a properly dressed Subaru with AWD in the snow or ice. Better than most cars on summer tires, or 3 season as we call them, but just barely. I would give it a 4 out of 10 with winter tires, a 2 out of 10 without. My Legacy was a 9 out of 10, too slow to be a 10.
With this winter I once again wonder why did I swtich back to rwd? Was I delusional? Yes I thought traction control would help, and it does a little bit, witner tires would be the answer, and they help some; extra weight, that helps some too. Now I know some of you park your Maruader for the cold spell, and I can see why, it really isn't a cold weather car. It works but then so do other cars. It is comfortable, except the seatbelt sockets. Others are more comfortable. It is rare, but then I wonder why it is rare, unwanted rare or unadvertised rare.
It is upgradeable, much more than some cars, less than others, but upgradeable and makeable into truly inspiring vehicles. But I couldn't drive such a vehicle up here. Too cold for the Supercharger, too slow, not a 12.99 car without. 4.10's or 4.56 would not be a good winter driving idea. Even a Trilogy is best keep in hibernation during the winter, as Chader can attest.
So that leaves me wondering once again, is it time to swap out my Marauder. Awesome car and all that it is, but too limited to use. Or should I keep it?
(I think I answered my own original question, with a little help from my friends).
why would you want a 13 second car? in the snow?
I finally figured out your problem....
You have nothing better to do than to make up problems. If nothing is wrong, you will find something to complain or try to fix. let me help....
the perfect car for you is a Ford Flex. heres why...
Road noise- its made with "quiet steel"... silent inside.
Snow- its AWD
Power- the v6 has a lot of umph and low end torque
Interior- You said you fit in one, amazingly snce nothing works for you apparently. Was noted for having vasts amoount of space, but having a very nice feel to it.
Stereo- New Fords ( 06 and up) have great stereos now. I have 4 examples that I have driven all stock and great sound.
Cost- They have gone down in price considerably, and even new has almost 10k in rebates since Ford wants to move them.
Unique-You dont see many on the roads so you will stand out. And nothing else looks like it.
Anything else?
Yes sorry..
Navigation and Dual sunroofs, plus many options to up the appearance

Aren Jay: First thing about comparing cars is apples to apples! Subaru Legacy is nothing like a marauder! It is foolish to even go there. Why would 2 wheel drive be expected to perform well in winter driving? The two cars are night and day. To make a list of what the marauders short coming are in winter weather is just plain stupid.
For the life of me I do not know why anyone would make such a post?
Most people I know and talk to buy a car to fit the lifestyle and type of driving they do everyday. Not buy a performance sedan and complain how bad it is in Canada in the winter.
I would think that one would "test" drive a car before they sign on the dotted line.

" I could just say an Aveo, but I have never and will never own an Aveo so what would be the point?"
Uhm, I actually love my Aveo 5dr. For $10k I received a brand new car with a 5yr/100k warranty, with good MPG, great in the snow and does everything I would ask of a DD. Everyone who has spent anytime in it comments on how it rides much larger than its size. As for size, I know a Sgt with the Troopers who fits just fine in one and he is 6-06, 250#.
Granted it is no MM, can't get out of its own way and the gearing on the MTX was done wrong, but I wouldn't trade it. I'm actually glad the FLM dealer across the street from where I bought my Aveo thought thay had a pot of gold in a 07 ZX5 stripper that I said no to.

Something tragic would have to happen to my Marauder for me to part with it. Either my garage collapses on it, someone steals it, or it goes up in flames. I dont want to be that guy 30 years from now looking at a Marauder in a classic car show and talking the guys ear off how I wish I kept mine.
BTW, Aren, could you post up a pic of yourself next to the Marauder you claim to own?? Curiosity has gotten the best of me.

So that leaves me wondering once again, is it time to swap out my Marauder??.
YES!
Awesome car and all that it is, but too limited to use. Or should I keep it?
NO!
(I think I answered my own original question, with a little help from my friends).
What I need is a Legacy Marauder cross with added backseat room. And making one seems unfeasible, too many problems to overcome.
Thus I need to go test drive that Phaeton see if it is the one.
HOPEFULLY!
If that is the Flex (didn't see your above post), they are too expensive up here. I do like them though, but with the turbo engine next year they would be worth the wait. Perhaps the next vehicle for me after I replace the Marauder. That is assuming whatever replaces it needs to be replaced.
HOPEFULLY SOON!
A Phaeton on the otherhand would combine My Marauder and my ex Legacy. Thus worthy of consideration. A Jaguar XJR on the otherhand not be better, thus I will have to rethink getting one if I stay around here. Would not be much worse than my Marauder, but this winter pushes the Phaeton idea up a few more points.:dreidel:
:sunshine::):snowman::(
Let's all hope that the Phaeton test drive goes exceedingly well!!

My father daily drives his Vortech'd 05 Roush in the winter from Park City Utah to Layton. He's done it since 05' In PC its usually around -15 -5 in the winter. I called and spoke with Vortech and they said he would be just fine. The only stipulation is that he needs to warm the car up for about 5 minutes before going. After that he's good to go. If you had a block heater there would be no worries at all.

To answer Aren's original question - I won't be gitting rid of my MM for the fore-seeable future. And yes, the options are limited, but that is a large part of the fun - updating, modifying, etc.
I understand the concern about snow as well. Have you considered a "winter" car and keeping the MM? I currently have 6 vehicles. Each has it's own best qualities and short-comings. Years ago I was a single car person, but gradually moved to the multi-car solution. The closest thing I owned that seemed (at the time) like a one car fits all was the Touareg (you all probably saw my rant about its quality on another thread here so I will forgo repeating that). It had huge amounts of torque, air suspension that could raise or lower the car - it could ford almost 24 inches of water, then drop down low for cornering. It had full time 4WD system that was really advanced (I drove the thing in over 20 inches of snow with no problem - my Bronco couldn't come close to that). It was smooth, quiet, comfortable and got good mileage. At 95+ mph cruise it was rock solid. The technology in it was amazing. I'm an engineer, so hi-tech stuff appeals to me. I can understand Aren's thought process here, since I went through something similar when I bought the T. I wanted to get back down to one or two cars, and it was soo cool. Here's an example of some of the thought/engineering that went into it. If you have the vent on and hit the windshield washers, the vent is automatically closed so you aren't "offended" by the smell of the washer fluid. If you put it in Reverse, it did the same so you wouldn't smell the exhaust fumes. The technology was dazzling. Who besides the Germans would even think of such things?
After fighting the equality issues with it, though, I wanted to get back to something that was much less hi-tech, but a solid platform for upgrading. The MM filled the ticket nicely. I did underestimate how much I would like the MM, though, so it is now a keeper.
