The shout box is much easier to use than than the Chat room. Its been tried by us junkies. We do not like it!

Chat is great, but not as great as Shout was...

Shout was great because it was quick to access, you did not know who was there lol, and most of all, chat requires you to stay in the room, shout you could come and go and not miss the convo.

I personally used chat all the time when Steve was around, but as a honorary CAM member, I do want the box back.

Maybe they can come up with a way to make it easier to see who is in the chat room. I think it would be easier to use chat if they put chat users on the front page. I just found out that they do list users of chat but it is on the first forum page. Took 2 1/2 years to find that! What do the owners think! :)

Right you are Rex! It seems to me an easier solution could be found. If the way Chat was being used became a problem maybe some rules would need to be put down. If the Admins. does not the want the world to see us talk about midgets and other things could they find a way for us to use a shout box that is a little more hidden. I know that a lot of abusive language was used and that needs to stop. How about someone opening a new thread to discuss the problems with the Admin. and some rules and guidelines worked out. It would be nice if the owners started this instead of us trouble makers! We all miss the day to day talk. Besides the BS that went down in the box we also had a lot of serious talk that went down. It was a lot easier to do it in the Box than in the Chat Room or PM. Much faster and you could carry on a conversation. When the serious talks happened people would back off till we were done with our talk. We did have a sense of honor in the box! ;)

Will admit things did get a bit racy at times with some of the Shouts, but there was some serious stuff communicated as well; and it was a great way to communicate in real time with MM friends.

Don't know if we can get "The Box" back or not, but if there's a way we could discuss, set ground rules, etc., would love the opportunity to do so.

I enjoyed the sense of community that Shout offered as a way to start the day. It was nice to see who was awake, having coffee, what their local weather was etc. Also enjoyed saying Hi to friends on line in the evening. Used it more as a real time way to stay in touch and :chat: for a bit. Never liked to discuss more private or possibly objectionable topics in Shout, realizing it would be readily viewed by members and visitors to the site. I figured that all that sort of stuff could be done in a PM. Yes, I occasionally blushed :o at some of the topics of discussion and steered clear of them. The culprits were usually really good guys who possibly forgot that everyone could hear them. ;) Bottom line, Shout added a lot to my enjoyment of the site and I hope it returns. I know we all can use it in a way that is both enjoyable to us and respectful of others.

True true When I first came to the site I have to admit seeing the box on the front page was somewhat interesting .I can see the reasoning behind putting it there but I think with the colorful cast of characters who took up home there (including yours truly) maybe a couple of layers down in the site would be better.

On a side note it really really bothers me that it takes almost a total melt down/temper tantrum for them to post on some threads,by then things are out of hand and tempers are flared. I just did some reading on several threads like this and this seems to be business as usual.

I dont know if we will see it back guys. To get it back it may require signing a code of ethics! As we have seen the owners are cleaning up some problem areas and are taking a hard stance with some of our actions. I do think that we as members may hold the key to getting the shout box back. It will require us to prove we can handle ourselves in a decent manner! It is obvious that they are demanding a higher standard than what we have given them in the past.:)

I think that a better characterization would be that we are returning to a standard that was well understood in the not so distant past. It is only recently within the last 12-18 months that some have tried to skirt the rules. Use of "Street Vernacular" in the SHOUT BOX is only about 6 months old -- frequent abuse in the SHOUT BOX led to its closing IMHO.

My memory may be failing ... but I seem to recall the Upgrade and the Disappearance of the SHOUT Box as two separate but unrelated actions. The Shout Box was still here after the upgrade was completed. It disappeared only a couple days later when rampant abuse and anything goes language started to get out-of-control.

As to the Return of the SHOUT BOX -- I wouldn't give better than 3 to 1 odds of that happening within the next 3 months. Maybe this improves 1 to 1 within 6 months. Time will tell.

Memory is not bad Charlie. I think a soft ware problem started it. It was freezing up all the time. The company that supported it is gone. Plus we all know the rest of the story. :)

I guess the reason that I am disappointed is that I never participated in, nor really saw, any of the Shout Box abuse that continues to be referenced... Also, I think that Nate's post was not meant to be an accusation at all. It has been alluded that the reasoning behind the Box not being brought back or fixed has more to do with the possibility of continued misuse, and a lack of a way to properly moderate it, than a software issue itself. The lack of updates and communication as to where the software issue stands combined with the recent push for increased decency seems to support that theory. By no means am I trying to "stir the pot" or place any blame on the owners or moderators. I am strictly attempting to start an open dialogue. I may be completely off base and if this is the case, I sincerely apologize. Just my two cents on the matter...
