View Full Version : wiring access from trunk to outside (trailer hitch)

Is there any access to run wires from inside the trunk to outside the car? I don't really want to uneccesarily punch a hole in the trunk if there is a factory rubber grommet lurking somewhere that I have not found.

I am planning to locate two transistorized trailer light modules inside the left rear quarter panel, powered from the constant 12V to the subwoofer (a 25A circuit). This prevents the extra current from the trailer lights from loading (blowing) the Lighting Control Module, as the taillight circuits just act as signals to the modules.

I know on the 1997 Crown Victoria there was an oval rubber grommet inside the trunk parallel to the quarter panel. Any neat way I can get wires out of the trunk on a Marauder?

I just close the trunk lid on mine. It's a flat wire and a rubber weatherstrip.

I need something a little more permanent than dangling out the trunk. I looked at the tail light assembly from inside the trunk, but did not see anything obvious. Can you elaborate?

Unbolt the tail lamp from the body, and you can punch a hole thru the wiring grommet and put the additional wires thru.

How often do you tow? Flip it inside the trunk when not in use, pop it out and connect the trailer when you need it and close the trunk lid on the wire. Not a big deal, you don't notice the wire if there's a trailer there anyway.

Thanks for all the replies. I ended up cutting and re-sealing the trunk floor grommet and running the wires along the channels in the trunk floor.

I wired two different plugs: the 'standard' flat 4-wire and a slightly unusual round 5-wire (4-wire plus reverse lockout for disc-braked trailers, common for boats).

I go to the lake as often as possible. I'm sure hanging it out the trunk works fine for occasional use, but that doesn't describe my towing.

Now I've just got to get that big trans cooler and $900 aluminum radiator in before the summer heat arrives :)
