Hey all,

I have a 3200 stall converter and am pretty sure I should get a trans cooler before I get it installed. Are there any other options other than DR (pricey!). I heard Summit sells some but I dont know which ones fit our cars, unless they are universal?? Any help is welcome. Thanks.

I would look at this one. It will do it for sure and the price is nice :)

The best cooler for our MM is the Long trans cooler. It is better then Ford's F350 Diesel trans cooler. Any other cooler is a waste of money and time. Use search -

What about a rad cooler like this.

I plan to get one after the trans high stall is done in spring.

This post is going to sound like I am bieng a jerk because I can't think of any other way to put it. I apologize up front because I don't mean it to be that way. I am just telling the truth.

A cooler like that is great for bling factor. If you want cool looks that's ok I guess, but if you want your transmission to stay cool then please don't do that.

For a transmission cooler you don't need fans or fancy designs. You need something that is going to do the job to keep your transmission cool. The cooler I linked to abov has done the best of any cooler that we have ever tested and it has a great price to go with it. The company that makes it makes the factory Ford coolers and is known for making some of the best coolers that your money can buy.

Bill,

I honestly think thats a bit of overkill for about 99% of these guys. LOL

Actually it may do more harm than good because it's SO big that it might block airflow.

Not that it isn't an awesome cooler if you need it, but unless one it often racing in very hot conditions with a very high stall that they ride a lot from using something like a transbrake, then that thing is just too darn much.

Isn't there a possibility of over cooling the trans fluid?

I was mainly addressing the statement that another cooler was BETTER than this one.
Yeah, for most here it is and if engine cooling is marginal, it may hinder cooling, but you'd be surprised how freely air actually flows thru it. An intercooler would impede air flow more than this.
The cooler you posted is the same one we install on the great majority of our stalled and built transmission and it works outstanding out here in the desert.
As far as over cooling goes, I feel that the inherent design of this particular cooler prevents such of an occurrence by the natural reduction of fluid flow thru the cooler at lower temps, therefore a limited amount of overall btu removal.

Brian, I'd compare the measurements of the two units. IIRC the Ford SD unit is taller and not as long.
The cooling area of the two may be similar.

Still wondering about this cooler. Are the mounting brackets already on it or did you add those? Do they line up with the OEM Marauder mounts? I assume it originally came with 3/8" barb fittings for hose, that's what I would prefer to use.

I currently have 2 coolers and would like to put in this single, larger unit instead.

From what I remember back in 05 when I did mine, they were pretty pricey. I got mine at a such a killer price, I bought 5 or 6 more.

There were no 7.3 or 4R100 in 2004. The last year for those were 2003 and only the first part of the production run in 2002.

FordNut

Alright, two quotes in the $368 range, one @ $255. Never got a callback so I got one from Tousley. It's almost double the size of the one I had from DR. The hose fittings are 1/2" barb type and the brackets sort of line up with the original cooler mounting points. If you have open space between the bumper and the support you could rig some brackets and mount it there, I've got a huge LFP dual pass Lightning heat exchanger so I have to mount it in the OEM location. The brackets had to be modified and since I mounted it to the OEM tabs it was high enough that I had to modify the fittings because they were so high that regular hose would have been kinked to fit under the radiator cover. Got it installed, still waiting for some fittings I ordered so I can finish connecting it.

I understand, but if part numbers were listed, or complete vendor names (and web sites) were listed, a "search engine" might find them. Replacement Ford part numbers almost always show up with a new number.

I understand it's an old thread -- I was mostly venting my frustration of having to go through a thread, looking for missing info, and wasting time doing it.

I also understand my complaints will go nowhere because of the human nature of the vast majority of Internet posters - they tend to not go into detail - use shortcuts - and lack good communication skills and protocol.

Can anyone quote performance of their Trans Oil Cooler? Some time ago I had Darrin install the one he liked. It has no fan. Since then, my trans oil temp has not gone over 150 degrees, which I think is as low as you want to go. Anyone else have temperature comments?
