When I was at Volo Auto Museum, I found a classic Marauder stock car reproduction. Well, the Marauder is real, but they redid it to make it look like a stock car that ran in the 60's. They have a video running over the car playing a tv show where they showed the work being done. They were doing it for the driver of the original stock car. I can't seem to remember the name of the show, though. But I think the driver's name is Parnelli Jones. Correct me if I'm mistaken, anyone who knows for certain. Here are a couple pics at the best angles I could get. I also took these pics with my crackberry, since I forgot to bring a real camera with me.

^^^ +1 Agreed! Especially since the sport is called "Stock Car Racing".

Actually, it's only a reproduction. When you get close up to it, you can see that it could have been done way better than it was. But, since I can't say that I know I would have done it way better, I'm not going to crab about it.

What part of the word "stock" do they not understand? (or conveniently forget?) Tubular frames and fibreglass bodies that bear only a modest resemblance to the car they're supposed to be...Junior Johnson must be turning in his grave. :D

Uh, not to be too picky but the bodies are still made of sheet metal--no fiberglass(yet)

Bob,

I've had the opportunity to visit several NASCAR shops, and you'd be amazed at the technology they're using to "paint" the cars. Most of the "paint schemes" are actually a series of giant decals that are used to skin the cars, so colors and sponsorships can be changed from week to week, literally in a couple of hours.

BTW, I do agree that the fake headlights, taillights, and grills they use to make the cars look "stock" do a look a bit tacky.
