I hear alot of good things about high flow high spun cats. Anyones opinion? Are they that much better than stockers?

Less restriction means freer flowing. There is a benefit to them as the more you free up the exhaust, the more efficient it becomes. Personally, I feel the biggest gain is dumping the stock manifolds for some LT headers, then move on to the cats, I like to keep it legit to avoid an inspection failure so 4 of those cats would be on my list. Still better than the stockers IMHO. Watch how much you free up a stocker as too much flow and you will lose bottom end (but you will still gain up top). Big cars need some bottom end so watch how far you go. With a better block and a S/C or turbo, you can go crazy after that with the remains. I personally would go with the LT's and matching cats (3 in) and allow the rest of the exhaust to restrict it down until say a Cobra block and a power adder were installed, then you can go mad with the rest and not have to replace anything you've just installed. Makes $ sense more than anything else.

are you talking about spun metallic element cats? They claim they are more durable and more efficient than ceramic monoliths. On top of that I think they are supposed to flow better. Ask the manufacturer. I think Magnaflow sells some so they should have some literature on them

All they are is just a regular cat that's created into a tubular design which is then put around the catalyst that is inside. And yes supposedly these have a better durability than a stock cat would.

But they make spun cats both with a conventional ceramic monolith inside, and now also a metallic element which is a new thing

I have the "new" metallic cats on my car... I don't know the specifics but I do know that you can look right through them... like a straight pipe. WTF is "High Spun" Mikey???

lol I don't think there is such a thing as "high", I've never seen that before. Maybe dtrmiguel is starting to make one himself?

Hi Flow spun cats is what he meant. They use a housing that is cut from some stock and appear like spun aluminum on the outside.

I went from 4 cats to 2 cats and have never had an issues with inspections. Most "inspectors" look to see if there are any cats. As long as they see one on each side you'll be OK. Same with the EGR, if it's there no problem... even if it's blocked off. When I get my MM inspected I spend most of my time talking about the car to the techs.

Not in NJ, once they saw the CAI, they were all over the car looking for other stuff. Like I was hiding heroin in my floor boards or something.

Do they even know how many cats are supposed to be on the car? I think not. I lived in Jersey for 26 years. Don't know about the inspection practices now, but they didn't get smart all of a sudden.
