I am planning a possible trip to bail my buddy out of AZ and I have the winter tires on my car right now. He said they would rot because it's so hot over there. I said I never heard that and I don't think 3 days is going to ruin a set of winter tires... maybe 3 months.
Anyone ever heard of this?

driving that far on winter tires especially when it starts to get warmer will wear out a soft winter tire very very very fast. It's not going to be some kind of magical instant rot though

I doubt it by the time you get back they willbe shot, they arent desighned for long hauls especially when you hit the hot dry climate,at highway speeds they will be gone. They will wear like taking a crayon across course paper!

I'd tend to agree with that, I've never seen it done, but with how soft a material they are made out of, I wouldn't be shocked if the trip wore the tread to the point of the tires needing replacement.

I had winter tires(used with 25k on them already) on my car for 9 months(january to september) and over 5k miles, and they did wear a little faster than usual, But i don't think they they will wear out as fast considering the ambient temps and road temps are not that high right now.

So, do it and buy new tires next fall. Help your pal. stay safe and stay out of boost. Your good. If I can stay out of alcohol while working, you can stay out of boost while helping..............

I can answer this with experience!!
My mom refuses to get off her ass and take her BMW to get the tires changed. So my dad got sick of doing it and left the snow tires on for all year. YEAH, I told him not to but he insisted. 1/2 way through the Utah summer they are toast and in the warm temps the car would handle like CRAP. 250$ a tire, gone. This was from brand new to 2000 miles.

My mother drove her mini van for over a year on blizzak's (in CT not alaska). Yeah they wore but a year later they were still fine to drive on. I wouldn't worry about it

A few years back I drove my GM from Burlington Ont Canada to Florida, spent a week in Daytona and Orlando and then back with no damage to the snows. Shouldn't be an issue for a short time.
I know a few people who put a new set of snows on every winter and drive them thru the year
