View Full Version : The fire went out.....
WOT up the on-ramp, a 2008 Corvette (Not a Z06) falling behind in my rear view mirror and all of a sudden the engine starts misfiring nearing the 1-2 shift point.
I noticed a bit of brown smoke in the mirror. No CEL's so I tried it again, same result. Temp's in the low 40's. Motored on home OK with occasional rabbit starts, all OK, could spin the tires easily.
Talked it over with my Honda Mech son, Jason, and he thinks I blew the spark out on a cylinder. Boost was at ten LBS, I noticed it. My nitrous was off.
Soon as this cold snap is gone, I'm changing plugs. Is there was some way to check the COP's for firing under load? Car is nearing 70K miles.

on a related note, my car is loving the 4 degree mornings this past week. after a proper warmup, its got some additional power with the ample supplies of cold air.

Sounds like you hit the rev limiter Pat.....cold temps make these engines pretty frisky and they tend to over run the shift point sometimes!!

Pat, any engine I ever heard that blew out a spark plug made a sound that's unmistakeable. How does it drive now? OK? If so and no CEL maybe you did
just bounce off the REV limiter.
To all of our good friend up in Yankee Land, under 50 is chilly in Dixie.

-21 f. Yesterday morning here! Sorry nothing more to add.
If it's the rev limiter then all's OK. The WOT's I did a few days previous when the temps were in the "Ahem" 70's were OK. Car seems fine.
Didn't realize the cooler temps made the high end limiter less stable.
Thanks,

Not that the limiter becomes unstable but the engine makes much more power in cold air and it actually runs to/past the limiter......I think!!
Pat, I had a lot of limiter problems with my ProCharger and finally Scott Beer told me that the 1-2 shift was controlled by only one EEC parameter (cannot remember if it is speed or RPM's) and somehow he fixed it??:help: My 1-2 shift point is 6200 RPM and I think the limiter is at 6700 RPM?? Every now and then in cold air it will still hit it and it SCARES THE HECK OUT OF ME!!
Do you have a tuner that you can lower the 1-2 shift point with?? If so drop the 1-2 shift about 200 RPM's and it should fix it for cold air!!
Good Luck!!
