As we celebrate our Nation and it's bright future today, I am prevailing upon you all to join me and the owners of MM.Net to start out the new year on the right foot.
We understand that what's important in our lives fluctuates: cars are bought and sold, Members come and go - all for their own individual reasons. For some, this website and the car are "old hat" and a comfortable place to converse with friends, for others this is a new adventure. This website is still the most knowledgeable resource for Marauder information anywhere.
We've gotten very sloppy. Our shirt tails are hanging out. I know we can never return to the early days when our beloved Marauders were still in production, but that doesn't mean we still can't be respectful and helpful here.
Why are we tolerating foul or very hurtful or harmful language? It's not just up to the moderators but it should be up to all of us to keep a sense of decorum here. Mike Poore so eloquently stated elsewhere and it bears repeating:
George Carlin knew them, and with many member's military history there are some he never thought of. I recall boot camp where it was common to ask someone to pass the ****ing salt; and the response it received when home on leave, I asked Grandma Gardner for the condemn using the newly learned method.
In any case, as some of our friends keep looking for inventive spellings and ways to slip profanity through the filter, and we need to counter with better filters. There's a new wrinkle, though, along with the time we have to spend combating inventive, and childish ways to demonstrate potty mouth, it takes very little more time to send a PM asking for politeness, then warning(s) that there are consequences for such behavior.
Don't read them, you might respond; my answer is: "it's easier to send you packing." While it would be tempting to respond in such a manner, in all seriousness, as stated previously, this is a family oriented website, which also includes my grandchildren as members, and I for one do not appreciate my family members being exposed to unwelcome vocabulary in my home.
Thanks friends, for your understanding.
While this is a car enthusiasts website, we do have a Lounge where we can post off-topic threads. Some go too far. If you're posting just to be bizarre or get a reaction out of us....Stop. We don't need or want bathroom humor here. Sorry, but we really don't care to guess how many feet there are from your front stoop to the curb or what shape the clouds are at Noon on Thursday.
Moderators can't be everywhere. I ask you all to step up and keep a clean house. Report a Bad Post if it's in bad taste or if inappropriate language is used. We do have children as members here and I'm tired of playing den mother. Also, don't jeopardize your membership here by creating a second screen name account just to play games.
This website is shared by all of us and it's time for all of us to pitch in, tuck in our shirts and polish up the website.
We've given some leeway with warnings, but that seems to have little effect in improving things. Make no mistake, if forced to do so, moderating will happen and if some can't play well together, “Don’t Let the Door Hit Ya Where the Good Lord Split Ya”.
