View Full Version : Got wipers?

My 2003 Marauder has been giving me wiper trouble. Sometimes they will only work on high. The low speed, intermittent, and washer fluid will not function. The auto parts store suggested a new wiper motor. After looking under the hood, I realize that the job is going to be a real pain. The louvered grill is all one piece and the wipers themselves are in the way. Does anyone have a way to make this job easy?

It's really not as hard as it seems, while you are there clean-out the "sump" where the wiper motor sits. Probably water shorted out the electrical connector, this is very common. Do a search, there is a lot of good info.

May be able to salvage the current motor assembly if you follow Richy04's procedure; if not, replacement with OEM with cost you around $120, with exchange.

Hey Richy, just wanted to say thanks for the excellent posting you put together for the wacky wipers. I ended up changing out the wiper motor assembly, but the info you posted up made the job a snap.

Glad it worked out for you, BTW the motor is not sealed as well as you think, the original sealer will allow water into the housing where the black cap meets the motor housing, so any water can damage the motor. Make sure you keep the trap clean to avoid any water contamination to the motor..

Yep, I think this is the primary cause of the wacky wiper syndrome.

Cleaning out the trap, and disassembling and re-sealing the housing is an excellent preventive maintenance procedure, and IMO, should be done before any problems arise.

Add to your car washing routine about every other time or as needed especially in spring and fall when the leaves fall. Set water hose nozzle on jet and shoot between the slots in the cowl. Forces all the debri out the flap and problem solved, before having to go thru the disassembly ordeal.
