Any one know how to remove the rear window molding? I had another mishap with the garage door. I will need to repaint the roof and replace the molding. The windshield molding is easy. The rear I can't figure out.

What kind of "mishap?"

I know the molding at the bottom of mine doesn't want to stay attached to the glass on the bottom right side but it's no biggie.

It is permanent, you need to pull the rear window to get it off at the roofline. Your body shop can just rope the moulding, they will know what that means.

It gets installed with the window, you usually put alittle adhesive on the moulding, put it around the glass and then set the whole thing in together. I have seen people slice the little lip off that goes behind the glass, then slide it in the groove with urethane window glue on it, but it usually wont last more than e few weeks, then they bring it back and we do it right !

By mishap I mean the garage door went down as I was backing out. I forgot I had a remote in my jacket pocket and must have pressed the button when I turned around to back out. It caught the molding and about 2.5" of my roof. I assume you start the roping process in the bottom corner of the glass. But since I'm not looking to save the molding can I just knife it off and rope in the new one?

Uhh no, roping, meaning, using nylon rope under the moulding to lift it off the roof for the paint work, if the moulding is damaged, the rear window will need cut out of the urethane, a new moulding installed after the glass is prepped, all is installed back into the car after the window opening is prepped, and.... you body work is done.

Clean it up and add a small dab of black silicone to hold it in place.

I love a good keyboard fingering.

Did you see what a glass company would charge for the job?

It will need to be out far a few days while I repaint. I'll find someone that can take it out for me here in my garage.

Keep in mind that glass companies come out to you to do the job.

Keep in mind... that is an expensive piece of glass, I would have an insured shop pull it.

yep....

the only correct way is to pull the whole rear glass, if you're planing on repainting the roof.

its not that hard to remove the glass, if you have a good cutter, they ussually run about $40 for a good one. you cut the urethane adhesive from the inside the car and gently lift it out. then when you make your repair you can glue it back in. you must remove all the old urethane, put the new rubber moulding on the glass ,then put new adhesive on the lip on the car and place the window back in place.i use 3M 'WINDOW WELD" . it works very well , sets up quick, but you need to be careful because it can get everywhere. but as other people said, it is not a cheep piece of glass, so if you don't feel comfortable, don't attempt it ! and if you do, make sure you have a second person .

If you are repairing and painting the roof you really need to have both front and rear glass removed and pull with the weatherstrips that run from the A post to the C post. Its the roof area and with the sun it see's over the years there is no use to short cut a repair that you could need to have redone years later
