I am in need of new brakes. I don't feel like going all in on a BBK(Wilwood, Baer, etc) other than for looks cuz my car is a DD not for track. I would like additional stopping power and I was looking at Cobra brakes. There is a sale here http://www.buyfordracing.com/index.php

I have googled and searched MM.Net for something and turned up with nothing really related. What would it take to make these work? :help:

I have wondered this as well but cant find any info. Will Cobra calipers bolt up as is and is there any advantage to swapping the calipers only?

No, they won't bolt up directly. The bracketry is different on Panthers to Mustangs.

Has anyone tried to make it happen?

I doubt those calipers are any bigger, and really a bigger caliper is not as useful as a bigger rotor

The calipers are the same 2 piston we have, they just look better painted red or black with "Cobra" imprinted on them. I was talking about the whole kit---Front : 13" rotors, Cobra calipers, and pads and Rear : 11.65" rotors, calipers and pads. I'm sure the brake lines won't be a direct fit, and possibly the brackets as well...

I don't think it would make that big of a difference personally...

IF you're gona do it get the Shelby kit. We just put one on my dads Roush and WOW them are brakes designed for big cars.

^^^^So would the Cobra R Brembo kit. But I wanna be sure it will work out first. Buying new lines...not a problem, but I'm skeptical on spending that kind of money on something that is more hassle than its worth...hence the inquiry about the normal old Cobra upgrade. It would definitely be an vast performance improvement over stock as well as an aesthetic improvement

Really, you'd come out spending less money if you just got a big break kit from TCE. Also why do you assume the Cobra brakes would be a vast improvement? It doesn't seem prudent to assume that at all seeing as the Marauder is a good deal heavier. Not that it couldn't be an improvement, just that assumption brings ruin.

Roush is selling a lot of stuff at discounted prices.

Assumption does bring ruin....So that being said, it is safe to say that the KVR 12" rotor upgrade doesn't improve either? Or even just changing pads and getting the rotors turned? The Cobra uses the same calipers we have, they are just painted red or black and stamped "Cobra". As for the rotors, you don't think 13" rotors and better pads would improve stopping power better than stock?

I have the Brembo 2000R kit for my '94 GT. The brake caliper would have to move significantly inboard in order for it to fit without hitting the spokes of the Marauder wheel. There already isn't much space between the wheel and the caliper.

Mustangs require wheels that allow for the bigger rotor. Most 17" wheels won't work.

I agree that the stock Marauder brakes (2-piston PBR style) are probably no worse than the stock Cobra brakes. The Cobra brakes are a good upgrade on a GT like mine because the stock fronts are 11-11.5" and are a single piston caliper. Fortunately, Ford wasn't stupid enough to put those brakes on the much heavier Marauder.

I have 22" on Mimi so I'm not really worried about clearance. I saw a sale and figured why not ask if it could work....

as I said earlier larger rotors would be a lot more likely to provide a benefit rather than trying just calipers. You'd need brackets made to fit, and by the time you do that you are prob gonna spend the same amount as if you had just gotten a big brake kit. Oh the other thing to think about is face clearance, just because the diameter isn't a problem does not mean that the back of the rim face won't hit. I have a diagram for my 14" baers, and there are a number of after market rims I looked at that would certainly have touched... so that's something to look at offest vs face depth etc. getting the scale diagram for the brakes is a good idea to avoid disaster.

RR|Suki You make a valid point and I completely understand that, thats why I bought a 22" wheel thats clears even Brembo BBKs on 05+ Mustangs and Cobras Maybe I should have said that earlier?? I was thinking ahead since I knew what my plans were. Either way, I appreciate those taking the time to give feedback. How did the Baer kit cost? If its gonna cost around the same as the TCE 13" which would make more sense?

Wilwood kit is ~$1550
Baer is ~$1300

I love my bear kit ... dealing with the baer customer service is another issue. I've dealt with TCE for ss brake lines and it was a pleasure. So that's my take on the whole thing.

If you go/want Baer, contact Wes @ Innovative Interceptors, he'll hook you up. On another note, the only difference between our calipers, and Cobra's, is that Cobra's are designed by PBR. They're still 2 piston.
