I'm looking at possibilities for ring & pinion set and I think 4:10's too much for my taste, and 3:73's possibly too little.

I found a 3:90 ratio which is a good compromise between the 2, anyone use them?

Also, any specific info I need when I order a set besides knowing it's for a 8.8?

As as far as RPMs go, I don't think you'd see any noticeable difference between 3:90s and 4:10s at highway speeds with the OD engaged.

IMO, go with the 4:10's there are hundreds of us running them and we're we're pleased with the results.

FWIW:

Stock 3:55s vs 4:10s - 70 mph 2,100 rpm vs 2,400 rpm

Stock 3:55s vs 4:10s - highway mileage 23 mpg vs 21.5 mpg

True ford 4.10's will setup/install MUCH better than aftermarket 3.90's They will also stand a chance of being quieter

Don't fear the 4.10's I cruise at 80 on the freeway and including city I usually get around 300 miles before the light comes on. In my other MM with 3.73's it was the same and with THIS car when it had 3.55's It was damn near the same..

If the 3.90 set is the one from Motive Gear it is "different" than the FR 4.10's.
The Ford Racing gears are for drag racing high impact service.
Motive Gear is a harder alloy w/better finish on the matting surface they will run quieter.
If I ever swap the rear gears it will be for the Motive 3.90.

I've had my 4.10 FRP gears installed for almost 50K miles, have had no problems.

Personally I'd gp woth the 4.10 FRP gears. You won't be sorry. Make sure you get a good shop to install the gears. Check with your local Mustang club for references.

The difference between 3.9 and 4.1 is only 5 percent, or 50 RPM higher with the 4.10 for every 1000 RPM with the 3.90s.

Even at 3000 RPM, that's only 150 RPM more for the 4.10s.

I've got 4.10s now, but if I had it to do over again, I'd put in 4.30s.

Installing my 4.10's dropped me from 14.97 e.t. to 14.51 e.t.
