And boy was it a doozy! Last night after work I stopped by the local "Man Cave" to hang out and talk trash. The guys start talking about my car and how they've never seen one "run". Then another mentions that he'd love to see me match up with an Impala SS. Not five minutes later, guess what pulls up? Yup, a mint '96 Impala SS. In the three months since I've purchased the car, I've done nothing more than a few (okay, more than a few) burnouts, launches, and a couple top-end runs.
So eventually we give in to peer pressure, and found ourselves lined up for a quarter mile run. I know, street racing is irresponsible, illegal, dangerous, blah blah blah... but I'm young (and invincible). We went to a very rural area so that if anyone crashed it would just be us.
When we got rolling, I noticed he got a considerable jump on me. But there must be something about the second gear in those cars (or ours?) because thats where his lead started disintegrating. We were neck and neck and then just before we hit the quarter I looked over and didnt see him. Had I done it? Beaten our GM counterpart on the first try? Yes!
For the sake of full disclosure, the Impala is darn near 14 years old and had more than twice the mileage of my MM. But a kill's a kill right? :D

Sounds about right stock on stock. Impala takes the first 1/8 mile on torque then the MM freight train kicks in.

good kill sir
You now know, first hand, why many of us get a "tune" and 4:10 gears, add a dose of nitrous and look out.

Good Kill!
Like Charlie said:
350 SBC kills you out of the hole...4.6 DOHC rules the top end!
These cars were very evenly matched stock vs. stock.
I considered buying a '96 Impala SS* and the magazine tests had them at 15.0 seconds in the 1/4 mile.
Most stock Marauders run a low 15 second 1/4 mile....a far fewer number have posted high 14s stock.
(I went with a '96 S10 Blazer because I needed a tow hitch and a roof rack)

Nice Kill!! I have yet to line up with a Impala SS in the street. If I ever do, I'm sure he wouldn't know what hit him :D
