I'm almost positive you have a bad coil. I had the same thing on the crown vic and only one would make it hesitate and sputter.
Your code is probably a misfire in whatever cylinder.

Avoid driving it until you can figure out what the problem/s is/are.
Hope it's something minor.

A flashing CEL means a misfire...drive it too long that way and you risk damaging the cats.
If you can't hook up with DTRMiguel, any AutoZone or Advance Auto will read the codes for free. Get it done soon.

SWOOSH did you find your problem?was it a coil? Our 99 GMarquis just started doing the same thing sat,I did just wash it the day before and sprayed the engine/bay off,I thought maybe a conection got wet but its not going away, the exhaust smells a little rich.Anybody know of a quickway of finding which coil it is,besides gettin it scaned? Thanks in advance to anybody w/info!!

Good job!! I washed the engine on my 99 CV and shorted out 3 coils so far. IF you can't get it scanned, the old method is unplugging each coil one at a time. If it gets worse, move on to the next one. If the problem remains the same, then you found the coil.
Its just as easy to get it scanned, My engine would only sputter under a load so a scanner was needed
