I just spoke with my brother and a friend of ours told him that they are re-opening 75-80 Dragway!!

According to our friend he saw the track being cleaned, weeded , patched and prepped prior to a resurfacing.
Apparently the land deal for Senior Housing fell through because of water and sewer issues.

I'm trying to confirm this information.*

If it is true, we've got the old Drag Strip back in town!!

It doesn't get as crowded as Capitol and has less Ricers...though it is a little slower track. (slight uphill grade)

Those pics are sad to see. I lost my hometown strip back in '78.

I can still make out parts of the my old track that is now home to a nursery. As a matter of fact the original blacktop is their makeshift road leading to all the rows of trees lining both sides. I'd give just about anything to get those memories back.

Good luck to ya.

I'll have to take a venture past there and see what's up.

:bump:

Any CAMmers interested in checking out 75-80s re-opening this Spring??
Sherm was telling me how he used to race at 75-80 back in the day.
I learned how to drag race there, with my new '85 Mustang GT 5 speed.
I was there to race my Marauder on the LAST day they were open....:(

I won the Ford street class on the last day many years ago. It would be fun to re-live history.

I'm only ~3miles away from 75-80. Talk is it will be re-opening as an 1/8 mile track.

I personally saw asphalt resurfacing/removal equipment in action there a little over a month ago before I went out of town. I haven't been by since. Don't know if it was indeed being resurfaced, or just being torn up completely. I didn't see a roller or paver there, though.

I'll try to swing by soon and see if there was any progress if you'd like.

My scanner is acting up so I had to use the digi cam, sorry if it's a little hard to read!

This is pretty cool. My first and last runs were there the year they closed. A get together would be fun.

My first time down a drag strip ever was on that tracks last open track day. I'm glad to hear it's opening back up, Joe I heard similar news in our local Mustang club so this does appear to be so.
