yes, I'm looking to go softer, haven't posted in a long time. I have Kooks headers, X-pipe and magnaflows, I'd like to quiet the car down a bit, any suggestions? I don't mind loud when I am at full throttle but with my set up just pulling away from the curb I wake up the neighborhood.

I have borla on mine and love it. Nice and quiet with just a nice moan when accelerating.

Which size magna's and how old are they. Was it too loud when you first had them installed? Packing may be wearing out.

I have the kooks headers/x pipe/magnaflows and it was too loud for me. I removed the exhaust extensions and replaced them with magnaflow mufflers. This lowers the sound level to slightly more than stock.

I have Kooks with x-pipe and I used OEM mufflers. Sound did not change much at idle.
That is my recommendation. I think you will be pleased.
[My Wife was even surprised the car was not louder after I finished the install. She was expecting it to resemble my 78 T-Bird. (difference between 408 ci @ 11.8:compression and 281 ci @ 10.1:1)]

I added the muffler in place of the X-Pipe and it helped marginally. I'm thinking I'd still like to trade my magnaflows for stockers, but don't like the idea of the reduced diameter...

Add in resonators in-line before the mufflers.

This is what I'm doing as well. I've got SW headers and high flow cats going into the stock h pipe and stock mufflers/pipes. Shakes_26 car photo is the best!

Use the longer magna flo's and put cats on it.

I like my Aero Turbine 2525, they also make one that has a built-in resonator 2525XL series. The 2525 replaced my Flowmasters which were pretty loud, def. quieted the tone during cruising but when I get on it they roar out such a sweet tune.

Steven!
Good to see you are back!
You've got the same set-up as me....and; Yes, it does get LOUD, as soon as you give it more than 1/8 throttle.
I'm a Redneck at heart so I don't mind it.
It does get a little old when you are just driving around and want less noise.
You probably will need to swap out the mufflers to quiet it down any.
Regards,
Joe

Yeah, I'm still around just don't have a lot of time to be on the site much, I love the car still but around the neighborhood everyone thinks I am speeding and when I start it after 10PM even I cringe at the thought of how many children I am waking up - I'll try new mufflers - I'm keeping my Kooks. My tune has gone bad as well so I need to reflash the car. Glad to see you got a helmet, I have yet to be back at the track - just not enough time - maybe this summer.

I was doing some research on quieter mufflers and the Flowmaster 50 Series 'Delta' looks like a good muffler...muscle car rumble without being too loud.

Pm MarauderTJA, i believe he's still running the Flow 50 series Deltas on his.
Yeah, the neighbors know what time you left your girlfriend's house last night. ;)
Only a problem, if she is married!!! :hide:

the magnaflow dual in dual out used as an X will quiten the sound, just ask Russ Pryor I just did his car that way.

Can you explain a bit more for me not sure what you mean "dual in dual out."

The Magnaflow muffler has two (dual) inlet pipes, and two (dual) outlet pipes...
So the muffler is designed with a cross over or "X" Pipe within the casing...
I have that set up...

I like my set up with SW headers and High flow cat. To the magnaflow X 4x9x11 to the 4x9x18 magnaflow mufflers to stock over axle pipes to stock tips. Quit and flow great and only load if at WOT. see my pictures if you want to see from header to tail pipe.

Sweet! Nice set-up, Russ.
Looks like it's time for me to start some heavy-duty lobbying on the home front.

Oh, thanks, mine are 4 years old, I didn't think they had dual ina nd dual out - I'll check though and since I already have an x pipe I think it would be easiest to just change mufflers

There might be a simple solution. Look up Haggis' post about the proper set up for "DELETE TIPS", you can get 'em from Wes at Innovative Interceptors, BTW. In any case, by simply extending the tips slightly aft, the inside the cabin noise level is greatly reduced.
Gordon's article is very thorough, complete with photos. :)

This is what I'd recommend. I did this to my Crown Vic. See Attached. This is a Magnaflow "Tru-X" Muffled X Pipe - It's straight through but deletes some sound.
Loud pipes saves lives.

ended up putting some quieter "stock" mufflers on this weekend, what a huge difference, still has that great muscle car drone but I can actually hear myself talk inside the car. I think since they got louder and louder over time I just never noticed, and the magnaflows were empty, nothing left inside of them.

I thought Magnaflow used SS packing that doesn't burn out??
Mine have gotten a little louder over the past few years but I have no drone.....but I still have OEM tips!!

I don't know the details of what used to be inside the muffler but there was nothing left, I have the OEM tips as well.
